god i hate that video. which is why i had to do some reading about it just now. he really was that close to bleeding to death.

Is the actual cutting not filmed? They focused on the two players going into the boards and a 3rd player skated across his neck?

it's grainy footage from the 1980's and you don't clearly see what happened, but two players collide with the goalie in the crease, sending the goal off its moorings. then....blood!

Too lazy to read the entire thread so if someone mentioned this, my bad, and this made NFL Films though probably low on the "all-time" list:

It was the play Stafford made maybe 3 years ago after suffering a dislocated left shoulder on the play before. After getting buried, he told he linemen to "get the *bleep* off me", ran the next play, and threw a game winning TD.

Since I am a Lions fan, I want to give us some love....

Forgot Foreman catching Moorer with the only punch he needed. Watched it live.

I think wikipedia has wrong information. I don't think it was a skate that cut him. I think it was the goal post moorings.

It was definitely a skate, as the goal moorings were nowhere near his throat. Injury occurred when two players crashed into Malarchuk. One of them was toppled on his back, skates up. You can imagine the rest. That injury is precisely why goalies wear neck protection now.

If I recall correctly Malarchuk survived largely due to the fact that the trainer on his team was a former army field medic. Had training to deal with catastrophic injuries.

There is a better video of it somewhere that was featured on George Michael sports machine. That was how I originally saw it back in 1989.

Better video here - http://www.manlyweb.com/sports/injuries/hockey/clint-malarchuk-throat-injury.htm

Memorable good:
Matt Bryant field goal to send the Falcons to the NFC championship game last year. Mostly memorable because I was there and had tickets to the NFC championship game too.

Memorable bad:
The worst infield fly rule call ever a couple years in the playoff play in game and the subsequent fan reaction.

or
The Braves World Series game where Ron Gant was pulled off first and called out.

Olga Korbut on the uneven parallel bars in the 1972 Olympics ... they've gone way beyond that now, but in 1972 that move was revolutionary.

In fact, it was this performance that changed my mind about female athletes. Before her I could comfortably dismiss female athletes but that performance had everything a great athlete has and most importantly it showed a girl could be just as fearless as a guy.

fewer cameras in those days, no HD (thank Odin), and all of it was VHS.

So, we are spared the gore forever.

As a young SlowSpyder watching Brett Favre go in for an injured Don Majikowski against the Bengals early in the 1992 NFL season and throwing the come from behind game winner with just seconds left. I remember when Favre entered the game thinking to myself, "Who the hell is this guy..?"

Norwood's field goal attempt at the end of the Jan 91 superbowl with seconds left.
While the play itself wasnt spectacular, everything was riding on it (Norwood makes it, Bills win; Norwood chokes, Giants win).

That was the game that made me hate the NJ giants.

All of mine are losing side since I root for terrible teams.

1. Game 7 of the Canucks Stanley Cup finals in 1994 and 2011. The '94 was far worse though with stupid Messier and his fat head beating us.

2. Teemu Selänne's entire rookie season on the Jets. Amazing.

3.Vikes losing to the dirty Saints in 2009. Specifically of course I remember the final interception, but the entire game stick on my head.

So now this is what I cheer for ever single week of every NFL season:

My Vikes to win
My fantasy team/wagers to win
For the Saints to lose

KT

But at least we had Cris for a while.

Ray Allen's 3pt during Game6 of the NBA finals earlier this year is probably the only one I've seen live, but it was a pretty crazy one.

It was one of the craziest games I watched live (on TV):
