The most liberal city to live that doesn't suck. Where is it?

As a fellow Californian, I can tell you that any city housing a big name university will be both liberal as f*ck and fun. And you get to gawk at college chicks.

Yep, that's why Iowa City rocked so much. Madison, WI is another town that's the same way.

lol

I live in the Bay Area. Very liberal. Plentiful "liberal" things, many cities just ignore it as long as you're not causing trouble, and you can get a med card to avoid issues with anyone but the feds. Lots of stuff to do. Great weather. Lots of jobs in my field. Very expensive. Tax-ey. Crowded. Traffic would be a complaint but I almost never need to drive.

I love this area, but I must admit that the near-constant traffic situation has often lead me to consider murder as a viable option in several situations.

seriously, look at this:

traffic

the fricking first pic that they use for their traffic entry is the "beginning of hell." AKA, the exit about 1/2 mile from my front door. 🙁 ( I should say that the light volume in that pic is on very, very rare day)

The liberals in the US are considered conservatives in Europe... There really is no such thing as liberal in the US... So, which country/continent do you want advice for?

yeah,

The UK "conservatives" are considered ultra lib pinko commie-loving bastards by US Republican party standards.

(and it's mostly b/c they have, and love, their excellent health care. go figure)

😀

that's probably why it's so nice.
I'd rather be in Howard County...You can enjoy the niceness of Montgomery(better schools, better cops, more educated as you mentioned), without paying up the arse for it in taxes.

Salary is exactly the same regardless of where I work in MD.

that's ultimately where i want to move to. it's more open than moco. i was raised in moco (olney, md) and now i live in the st. louis area. i really want to move back home and open a practice in maryland. i figured out near columbia or clarksville would be best. i went home for a weekend for a wedding and just by talking to a few people about what i did, they were really interested in becoming patients... i seriously could have gotten like 12 patients just from that wedding had i lived and practiced out there.

in st. louis, it's crazy hard to be successful because there are like 10 chiropractors per square mile it seems. it's so saturated out here.

Howard County = boring, generic suburbia.

Montgomery County is nice, but it's quickly being overrun with illegals. Hope you enjoy having MS-13 set up shop in your backyard. It's also rub by liberal pussies who think that enforcing immigration laws is racist so don't expect the illegal situation to get any better.

My friend lived in Hawaii and says Hawaiians are extremely racist. They frequently beat up white kids at the schools and would tell white kids to leave places (like skate park, etc). At least this happened where he was.

Sure it's great when you go there for vacation. Everyone loves you when they want your money.

Maybe it's just when they don't know you. We have a friend who's Hawaiian that we stayed with last time. We hung out with her family and friends a lot and they seemed like really nice, genuine people. I certainly never got any "we hate haoles" vibe. :\

I live in Santa Cruz, CA. It's very pretty, and quite pleasant to live in. Lots of young people because of UCSC and lots of stuff to do for a city of its size (~60-70,000?). Great beaches, trails, etc. The city's got a few problems but overall it's a really nice place to live. Only 1:15-1:30 from SF, too.

something i did notice when i went back to visit was how many hispanic people there were... especially downtown in dc. i took my gf and kids to the zoo and i almost heard spanish being spoken just as much as english. i was like, "wtf? is there a hispanic pride festival going on downtown or something? why are there so many hispanic people around?"

LOL

You shoulda seen 80 before they finished redoing the big interchange thingy just past the Powell street exit. It's a lot better now than it was. Been a while since I've felt moved to jump off and take the frontage road or 6th street.

heh, I head for frontage whenever I can.

Austin, TX.

Chiming in from Austin, TX. As far as the US goes, Austin is a pretty liberal city. One blue county in a sea of red. Relatively cheaper to live as well compared to the east and west coasts.

Also a bit of trivia, the city of Austin has an ordinance on the books that legally allows women to be topless in public.

Toronto/Vancouver/Montreal

You don't even need to speak French in Montreal, unless you get a dick cab driver. It is probably the most fun of the three.

Vancouver is the most beautiful, with the best weather, but it's HELLA expensive, especially compared to income.

Toronto has the best jobs and is the most diverse, and has all the major league sports (soon to include NFL).

Eugene.
Tolerable enough for liberals and they dont have all the loons found in Portland or San Francisco.
Lots of gun stores and shooting ranges so it doesnt feel like brainless liberals live there.

That's exactly what I want.
DC, Silver Spring has bars, clubs, recreation, malls, etc... and are just 15mins away if you want to go partying(of which I'm not the type)

If boring, generic surburbia means neighborhood is quiet, and some moron wouldn't have their car blasting foolish rap/rock/or any kind of music at 2am in the morning, then that's what I want.
Suburbs >>> Rural >>> City.
I also like multi-cultural diversity. Columbia, Clarksville, Ellicott City, Owings Mills has a lot of that.

Go to Laurel, MD and you'll notice how far that town has changed the past decade...And to think that area used to be one of the most recommend area for middle/upper class gives me the creeps...
