Actually the cut off line is two. If you have one or two cats you're normal, if you have three or more you're insane.

I think there might be an exception if you live on a farm but yeah, pretty much.

from the comments section of the OP's link:

I saw the headline and thought there was no way this could be worse than the woman who kept all her adult diapers in a bathroom because she was embarrassed to throw them out, and then when Matt is in the bathroom talking to her about it, an earthquake hit and he slid through the pile of diapers as they all rushed to get out of the house.

This was worse.

yeh... that had to be worse.

omg the smell must be horrible. And that cat she was holding while crying, was it just the head? I'm pretty sure it was just the head. D:

If you really don't want to let go, at least get them stuffed or something!

Doubtful. That wasn't even that bad of an episode if you ask me. The one with rats was pretty bad, though!

Forty nine cats? That's nothing. I saw an episode of Animal Police on Animal Planet that had like one hundred and thirty. D:

My mom has a very mild case of hoarding mentality, not bad at all...
I've had to go over to her place on multiple occasions, rent a big dumpster thing the size of a truck that sits in the driveway, and just go nuclear on that place.

Uhh...

My wife has a friend exactly like this. She volunteers for the humane society and has adopted lots of cats over the years that nobody else wanted. She has 11 now, and occasionally takes in a kitten or cat on a temp basis until they can find a home for it.

Her house is perfect and spotless, with no smells.

IIRC, a domesticated cat's tendency is toward cleanliness so their upkeep is rather minimal (change out litter box). You'd have to be pretty crazy-go-nuts to not be able to even do that. Of course, I guess having over a hundred to tend to might take a lot more time.

I was watching my DVR last night and watched some Animal Cops Houston. There was an apartment with 60+ cats in it.

They said they went up to the tenant and said "We are taking your cats because you seemed overwelmed." The guy said "Ya think?"

Why don't people just bring the animals to the humane society or animal shelter or put a thing in the paper about giving away cats when you get more than lets say 3 dozen? Ugh.

It's a big house, and I say mild because at no time was it ever impossible to walk through any of the rooms in it.

She didn't horde anything weird, just an unwillingness to get rid of unnecessary old work documents and furniture that needed to go.

Or letting the garage have a couple of old lawn mowers that didn't work anymore, etc.

It was enough to irritate me but she would never get on the hoarders show in a million years.

Probably because they know it is highly likely that most of those cats will be put to sleep. People need to be more responsible with their pets.

H.O.L.Y. C.R.A.P. That woman is SICK & demented in all kinds of ways. Major W.T.F. Wow! Don't really know what else to say. Could only watch about 2 minutes of that mess & shut it off. She shouldn't even be allowed to be around cats. Didn't read the article, but charges need to be brought to the table. Everything about that situation is just wrong.

I hate stupid euphemisms like "put to sleep." The cats will be KILLED.

And yes, people need to get their damned pets neutered & spayed.
