The MS OS itself I can usually live with, although Vista is way more man-at-the-door checking your ID than XP. What concerns me (and you don't know this before you "upgrade") is which of your programs and utilities will continue to work with the next OS. I have a few that worked fine up to and including XP and don't work in Vista. I'm afraid to find out what won't work with Windows 7. That's partly why I haven't used the upgrade disk I have for my Vista laptop yet.

it seems to take forever to delete a file using the delete key.

also takes forever to copy sometimes.
I just about never hit the delete key to delete a file or set of files, etc. Don't want to mess with the Recycle Bin. I'm confident enough in myself where I elect to permanently delete whatever by doing a Shift+Delete. A couple of times I deleted something that I decided I wanted back and used a freebie called FreeUndelete:

I haven't been aware of issues in copy being slow on my Windows machines.

Does the "WinKey + D" still work?
What does that do? I use WinKey + M if I want the desktop and the Show Desktop icon is unavailable to me for some reason (I have a machine that frequently has the entire taskbar + Start key inaccessible, really annoying.

"WinKey + D" is Show Desktop, where "WinKey + M" is Minimize All Windows. They are essentially the same thing, though you can repeat "WinKey + D" to undo Show Desktop, but you have to use "WinKey + Shift + M" to Maximize All Windows (undo Minimize All Windows).
