5280ft in a mile..

So that's about 7 gallons per mile, or 0.143MPG

well the per person mileage is about the same as a car. Thats pretty damn efficient for a jet.

Wonder how much it costs per gallon of fuel. I'd guess $2 a gallon but I have no clue if I'm high or low.

They had a guy in the airline industry on "America at Night' who said that fuel prices kill airlines.

I wouldn't be in front of the computer all day if I hadn't just had surgery (asshat). Second of all, the 747 is the plane known as the "Jumbo-Jet." Yes, it has the small hump in the front where their is a second story.

Alright, alright, calm down. No reason to start a big flame fest.

There are different kinds of 747s.

747-100
747-200
747-300
747-400

According to the image names, those are some of the different models. I don't know the difference, and there may be more types.

Well, unlike SUVs on the highway, at least a 747 is carrying more that one person.

i don't think the 100's and 300's are used much.
the 400 is bigger than the 200, both are jumbo with two floors but the 400 has a larger upper deck. you can tell it apart from the tips of teh wings, where the 400's point upwards at the end of it. lot larger, heavier- largest passenger airliner.

And it carries 550 people. Compare that to 550 people driving to work, each in thier own car, and you get equivelent efficieny to each of those people driving a car that gets 78mpg.
