Alright, alright, calm down. No reason to start a big flame fest.

There are different kinds of 747s.

747-100
747-200
747-300
747-400

According to the image names, those are some of the different models. I don't know the difference, and there may be more types.

i don't think the 100's and 300's are used much.
the 400 is bigger than the 200, both are jumbo with two floors but the 400 has a larger upper deck. you can tell it apart from the tips of teh wings, where the 400's point upwards at the end of it. lot larger, heavier- largest passenger airliner.

COOL!! i always noticed that not all the 747s looked the same. every time i go to china, the planes had the lil flip at the end of the wing, now i know thats the 747-400. COOL. i personally like that fold. it adds a cool touch to it.

boeing doesn't make anything but the 747-400 and 747-400ER anymore.

the bread and butter is the 737 anyway. with the 717 (the old super 80) being pretty close behind

Actually the bread and butter planes are the 737 and 777. The 717 was going to be stopped but they finally got some decent orders for it. The new boeing planes will not have the flip on the end of the wing, they thought it would improve performace due to wing space but it did not, so it has been canned. The 767 line is pretty much through except for the tanker they are going to lease to the air force and the 747 line is dieing due to orders for the Airbus A380 (I think that is the number) which has 2 decks all the way down. The other cause of death for the 747 is too many orders for the slightly smaller but much quieter and efficient 777. The assembly lines in Everett and Renton, washington are awesome to tour, especially when you get to crawl inside the planes.

EDIT* they do make another 747 as well, the frieght model. Though not very many are made, they still take orders for them.

well the per person mileage is about the same as a car. Thats pretty damn efficient for a jet.

Less than half that of a car. The 747 carried nearly 500 passengers if it's full. The per person mileage is about 70. Plenty of cars seat 5 and get 30+ mpg, thats 150 per person mileage.

right, but you are also carrying a few hundred people, so multiply that by the mileage, and then you get a figure you can compare to automobiles.

There is one more, the 747SP

SP (It's a mini 747 as you can see)
400 (If you want to know if you're flying the latest 747 you can always tell it's a 400 becuase of the little tilt up on the edge of the wings)
300
100/200 (OLDSK0000L)

The long range 747X is also coming out, it's longer and there's more room on the upper deck.
