I used to keep pads in my first aid kits. They make excellent bandages for cuts and whatnot when backpacking. Also I used to teach safety classes for knives, axes, saws, etc... when I was in scouts, I always kept them around because people don't listen when you tell them something is sharp.

Excellent bandages, very absorbant and designed for blood. :)

Yep ... when I worked as a whitewater guide we used to keep them in the kits. Great for head lacerations you get when the idiots ... I mean customers ... skip a paddle off the water trying to splash their buddy. Does have an "image" downside though ... try telling a drunk cop that you're going to strap a maxipad on the side of his head in front of all his other drunk cop buddies

Heh, try telling a scoutmaster why you strapped a maxipad to his son's arm/foot/hand/etc... :) Good times that are much funnier now that I look back on it. :)

haha.

i would always play cards with a Budweiser deck, in Scouts. on top of the fact cards arent supposed to be used, we played for money, and we were using a budweiser deck :) the parents hated me :p

I can just imagine The Mister coming in and seeing him do that, too. LMAO I remember once my little cousin who was about 2 at the time, came in with one of his mother's pads stuck to his forehead. It was pretty funny. :D

I never played with them when I was growing up. I didn't touch my mother's stuff (and later my sister's stuff).

I can remember on camping trip where a pad was pressed into service after someone got hit in the head with a small sledge hammer (one idiot on the shoulders of another idiot hammering in a tall pole). It kept the blood in check until the stitches were put in.

omg, you all are too funny!

I didn't realize pads were such a staple in first aid kits... but it makes sense, they are a lot cheaper than expensive bandages! And tampons for nosebleeds is pure genius. :)

<---goes to stock the van first aid kit with some feminine protection

Soak them with water and throw them on cars that have been sitting outside in -35C temps.
Doesn't do any damage but they are a b1tch to remove.

Yeah, I've never touched a tampon nor do I ever want to. Hell, I can't even stand the feel of panties.

Well you're not supposed to be the one wearing them.

when i was in highschool i went over to my bf house and there was a cup with some juice and a tampon in it... i asked what was going on and he explained that they had gotten samples of tampons in the mail and he wanted to see how absorbant they really were..

(boys are funny)

then we went and threw the soggy tampon at his older brother.. hilarity ensued.

I have no use for tampons. I have no use for feminine products at all.

LOL, they are great for wilderness medicine. I always keep a few in my pack because they are so compact yet do such a good job, in fact I teach that in wilderness medicine.

Do yourself a favor and keep a few in a ziplock bag inside your hiking/camping packs.

When I was young, i found out jumping on pads still in their plasic packaging made a wonderful pop sound (akin to the joy of jumping on bubble wrap.)

Unfortunenately, I had a whole box at my disposal, and by the time my symphony was done, I was standing in a sea of popped protection. My parents took it really well though, and the only punishment this maestro recieved was cleaning up more product than I ever hope to see again.

It really was a great performance though ;)

From time to time when I was little I would see my mom"used" pads. It scared me so much that I didn't go near her pads for years.
