The way it's turning out, it's more likely now that the Chinese team will get a gold. The japanese eliminated the team that beat the chinese. Now the Chinese and Japanese will be facing only the crappy Euro teams left (3rd and 4th in their groups). With the Japanese team ranked lower than the Chinese team, it's no wonder the Chinese didn't protest/appeal.

you mean there are 3 chinese teams in badminton?

I'm just saying that the way it's working out now has a Chinese vs Japan final, and China is favored over Japan. Thus the probability of China getting gold is higher than before.

So... a better chance than two Chinese teams playing for the gold and silver medals which is why they threw the match in the first place. Is this what you're implying?

More of a chance of China not making the finals if only 1 team was left to face korea in the semis

it's amazing how american broadcasters still have absolutely no idea how to broadcast international shows to americans. sports coverage is always abysmal (olympics, f1, int'l soccer), and for sitcoms or anything else they feel the need to re-make everything as fake as possible - usually destroying what made the show good in the first place. they even subtitle non-american english.

while the bbc version of "life" was narrated by david attenborough, the american release was narrated by oprah. survivor, the office, nearly all of the discovery channel, et cetera. no wonder why most americans barely acknowledge the existence of the rest of the world - the people that give us information do everything they can to isolate us.

sports should be carried live in their entirety, and if demand justifies it replayed in entirety during prime time. make no attempt to hide the results for the 8 pm crowd. if you're a fan, watch it at 4 am like the rest of us.

amen

Japan's soccer coach told the team not win so they wouldn't have to travel to Scotland....they were not disciplined...

Japan coach Norio Sasaki told his players not to win against South Africa on Tuesday so that his team wouldn't have to travel to Scotland for the quarterfinals. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, so Japan will remain in Wales and play Brazil on Friday.

FIFA announced Wednesday that Japan won't be disciplined. The governing body's disciplinary committee said it studied Sasaki's comments and "there are no sufficient elements to start disciplinary proceedings" for corruption or "unlawfully influencing match results."

Getting beat by 1/100 of a second but be just about the worst way to lose. I wonder what the margin of error is on the sensors they use for the swimming competitions.

Yeah but that's soccer. You can try your hardest and still the score is 0-0 after 90 minutes. The people who watch soccer don't seem to care about the score.

Hilariously bad boxing video. What's this referee getting paid? Japanese guy in red knocks blue guy down multiple times. Ref never counts him out. Blue guy eventually wins.

...and then the judges' decision was overturned.
Not yet, it is still under consideration.

Indian boxer too was out of the tournament when it was pretty clear that he should have won. There are allegations coming up that the judges are trying to fix the matches.
Triumph's link says this:

Japan's Satoshi Shimizu initially loses his Round of 16 men's 56 kg bout to Magomed Abdulhamidov in highly controversial fashion before having the judges' decision overturned.

The point is that he told his players to lose....that is the issue....not the outcome...

The problem can also be pointed out to the ridiculous point scoring system and they way the whole tournament is set up.

If you are the leader of the group.. you get to play with the leader of another group? That is pretty fucked up.

and yet they wonder how something like would happen...bunch of dumb asses...

Looks like the blue guy won to me? His head clearly hit the red guys glove more times than I can count. 😕

See this is why we shouldn't leave it up to judges scoring the match. Let them box until one of them either dies or throws in the towel.
