I call Shenanigans on you sir.

Sounds like an urban myth to me. Have a news article to prove it? Or did you hear it from a friend who's neighbor had a cousin that was there when it happened?

so, even if it was string or rope there, would would that do to a car? why the need to slow down?

i guess maybe and antenna could be snapped, but it look like they were pretending to hold it pretty low.

Something similar to that happened in my neighborhood a few years ago. I can't remember what it was they used, but they tied something around trees on both sides of the roads and cars ran into it at night. The accidents weren't too serious but they caused a good bit of damage from what I remember. No motorcycles were involved, luckily.

Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies say that Barnes, 46, could have been decapitated May 6 while riding his motorcycle along Loma Chiquita Road in unincorporated Santa Clara County when he rode into a rope or some other object that had been tightly stretched across the road.

I was wrong, it wasn't kids and the guy wasn't killed/decapitated but yes it did happen. He was seriously injured, spent 5 days in a coma, required more than 500 stitches and now has a titanium plate in his head. Oh and he was wearing a helmet and was only going 25 mph which is probably why he wasn't decapitated.

I understand the joke, prop humor... I get it. My point is that messing with traffic or moving cars in general is dangerous and not funny.

Now, had they done it on a running trail with some runners now *that* would have been funny. :D

I can't stand how people's comments (on youtube) say "idiot drivers" etc. If you were in a car and saw a couple of kids across from each other doing "something" on the road, you wouldn't drive thru at 50mph. No, you wouldn't. Even if they had a rope, you wouldn't "just drive through it" and risk damaging your vehicle. And "just suing" causes nothing but hassles for yourself.

INSTEAD, you could just slow down for 5 seconds and see what's up... like what the majority of the people in the vid were doing. The guy in the Mustang was a little bit too careful though.

Someone did it here too but they used some sort of plastic wrap between some signs. TOo bad for them the next car through was a cop. He said henoticed something just before it happened and saw some kids take off. They were all caught pretty quickly.

I think I would slow then aim my car at one of the pranksters and see if I could get him to drop the rope.

No cookie for you:
It was not in your neighborhood.
It was not heavy gauge fishing line.
Nobody was decapitated.

I busted you out and you dug for some related story off the internet. Nice try.

Really not that funny.

How is it not funny? I laughed.

it might be funny, but it's really not THAT funny. The execution of the prank is short lived and the whole thing could have been played out better. When they had a car come to a stop, it would have been funny to let it down for a second then bring it back up just as the driver starts to move... and again a few more times... and as people drive through it, act as if they are getting dragged along with their rope and see if the drivers hit the brakes. Like I said... it's not gut-busting... pass it along to all of my friends funny. It got a mild chuckle out of me, though.
