I bought a Ring camera a few weeks ago but didn't like it so I returned it and got a Google Nest Hello and am liking it.

So today I got this:

and this:

Saved $300 by buying on ebay versus from Google store or some other retail store.

I bought boxes of Thin Mints knockoff cookies today. Haven't seen any Girl Scouts selling them this year and I have to get my fix.

A pink Red Ryder BB gun for my daughter. It does NOT have a compass in the stock, but it does have cute pink tassels and comes with 600 rounds of ammo.

My daughter (she's 8) is afraid of it for some reason, but I had fun plinking cans with it in the backyard :)

Got my toiletpaper today. Holy shit 60 is a lot of rolls! :^D That'll last about 60 months in addition to the ~8 months of paper I already had. Think the supply chain will be straight by then? I'm not sure...

I thought that the TP supply chain was already fixed at this point. My grocery store now has a shelf full of the Cottonelle Commercial grade stuff that used to go to offices :)

Haven't bought myself any presents lately. Been spending a lot on re-doing my backyard, and this quarter's bonus is going towards paying off debt :(. Was really hoping I could go get a new pew pew toy.

Got a NEC PC Engine Duo (AKA Turbo Duo) for $95. World's first game console with a built-in CD-ROM! These universally have bad capacitors inside but I've fixed them up before and this one looks relatively nice inside. It's clearly never been serviced but that's a good thing in my book since the majority of work before was trying to fix additional damage after others attempted to refurbish it themselves.

Finally got my PC Engine Pachinko controller that I ordered two months ago. Also got my Console5 order with the NEC PC Engine Duo / TurboDuo cap kit.

Went ahead and serviced the Duo and it's working perfectly. Also replaced the DIN5 with a shielded DIN8 for a future RGB mod. I've done it for another Turbo Duo back in 2018 but there have been some new developments that may lead to better RGB mods soon: we may be able to get the composite YUV color. Furrtek did his chip die analysis thing and managed to extract the YUV color look up table from the original color encoder DAC (VCE) inside PCE/TurboGrafx. The compostie color looks so much better that I'll probably use the extra pins for a proper S-Video mod if an improved RGB mod with composite colors never happens, so I'll need those extra pins regardless.

The one I got for my kid back then was an inaccurate pos. He would shoot my 40 yo crossman instead.

They don't so much fire BBs, as lob them. You can watch it arc out of the barrel, and if you're paying close enough attention, you can go recover your BB and shoot it again :^D

I made a cardboard target box that does a pretty good job of collecting the BB's. I know that you're not supposed to reuse them, but that BB gun is so low velocity I can't imagine that it's deforming the BB's in any way.

If you're dumb enough to hang your target on a metal sign like Ralphie did, ya sure might!

I'm not sure if A Christmas Story caused BB gun sales to go up or go down, but everybody certainly knows what a Red Ryder BB gun is now :)

I bought some artisanal flour last week. We have a local flour mill - Arva Flour Mill

Arva Flour Mills, in Arva, Ontario, on the banks of the Medway Creek, is believed, to be North America’s oldest continuously operating water powered commercial flour mill.

Originally established in 1819, unlike most other heritage mills, we have never ceased operations and continue to produce what we believe is:

They grind local hard wheat. I bought 2 2.5KG (5.5lbs) bags of hard white flour and 1 4.5KG (10lbs) bag of 100% Whole Wheat flour.

The whole wheat and 1 white I gave to my GF (she likes to bake) and I kept the other white flour.

She really likes the whole wheat flour! I am liking the white. Makes great pizza dough.

Niiiiiice!

I just got two older 1600p Dell Ultrasharp IPS displays from Goodwill for a tenth of that but I'm tempted. :)

Awesome deal! :)

Unfortunately the sale is over for now to the best of my knowledge ... actually bought it a couple weeks ago. Good news is they seem to go to that price like once a month.

Nice. How is it? I'm thinking about upgrading my old 2407WFP to the S2721DGF, but it seems like IPS can be hit or miss. A curved 32" would be sweet.

Very happy so far ... still pushing it with a 4gb GTX 980 so I'm not getting maximum performance. (Trying to hold out for Ampre)

I went back and forth between this and a non-curved Samsung (also a VA panel) but I'm glad I went for the curve. My biggest concern was if text and graphics would still look sharp.... while they're a step down in clarity compared to the 24-inch IPS Dell U2410 sitting next to it they still look very nice and color accuracy is also pretty good plus the QHD/HDR video playback is outstanding.

The only negatives so far are only 1 display port (+2 HDMI) and a little "weirdness" in certain solid-color backgrounds (ie: Windows solid-color wallpaper) which almost looks like a slight wrinkle? Also there is a small amount of light-bleed in the corners on solid-black screen however neither of these can be seen in any other image/background.

Overall I'm pleased.
