A birthday card for a family member. Had to venture into an actual shop for it - first time I've been in a shop for several months.
I really hate the palaver around birthdays - having to find a decent card (even in normal times when it doesn't involve risk of death) or come up with an idea to make one...having to think of something non-banal that can't be misinterpreted to write in it, maybe having to wrack one's brains for an idea for a present (and then later feeling bad when you realise you spent several times as much on their's than they did on yours when your birthday comes around, and then feeling even worse about the fact that you feel bad about that fact, a kind of meta-bad-feeling). It's the stress and effort rather than the cash that is the issue, though.
And, worst of all, it's never-ending, it's pretty much always the birthday of someone you know. And God forbid you forget one. Birthday presents are rarely worth as much to the recipient as they cost the giver (not just in money, but in mental effort and stress), in my experience.
