The game manuals are digital for the following games I purchased on disk for PS4 and Xbox One
Killzone Shadow Fall
Forza 5
Dead Rising 3
Assassin's Creed Black Flag

I approve of the move, it is "green". Less weight = less fuel to transport. And it saves on paper needed, and the energy and pollutions costs associated with it. Full digital delivery has that upside. The downside potentially sucks though, so we will have to see how it plays out.

I'm accustomed to being right, but for some reason the arguments over GS and Xbox ONE have been particularly delicious 😛

Games gop's death is so certaij I do not understand how anybody can pretend otherwise. The 10 years mentioned in that article seems extremely optimistic. GameStop will be gutted durin this gen and not survive through the next one in anything but a brand used elsewhere--at the very most.

Did you read that article? They are talking about MS offering somewhat cheaper copies of digital games. They are giving Ryse a price drop to $40 digitally. One of the worst rated games on the console, 3 months after it came out. You could have already found it via amazon deals for $40 before they dropped the price on the digital version.

The title of the article is highly misleading. Just because you test the waters with an old game that didn't sell to begin with by dropping the price to $40, that doesn't mean you're declaring war on anybody or anything. Sony gives games away. Full games...via PSN+ and they don't call it "war on gamestop". Why does it have to be Gamestop anyway? It could be all retailers, including the Microsoft stores which stock games on the shelf.

They say "Ryse is the type of game Gamestop is dependent on..." No it's not...the best selling games aren't Microsoft published titles. Ryse sales numbers are shit, barely selling above 500k in the US. With a URL of fool.com though you'd have to be an actual fool to take anything they say as any type of prediction.

I did also see that. It's written in a way to skew someone's viewpoint to their way of thinking.

Like I said, when you get full games for free by being a PSN+ member, and Amazon among other retailers offer discounts on games (retail disk copies too)...Microsoft isn't declaring war on anyone. If anything they are trying to see two things. First if dropping the price of Ryse will get it to sell. Even though I liked the game I can admit it isn't likely the best title for the system and isn't selling. Second, they want too see if they can give slight price discounts on digital titles to funnel all the money to themselves. What I mean to say is, can they entice people to just buy the game from them and allow them to rake all the profits of the game(minus any deals with the publisher). At retail locations like Best Buy or Walmart, Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo aren't making as much off each game sold as they would if you purchase it from their store online.

Yeah that game is past its heyday already, but nothing changes. GS is still dead. PC games aside, all those things you just mentioned you could also do 10 years ago. And also 10 years ago you could get CDs and movies from CD & movie only stores, basically none of which exist anymore.

There are really only two good physical locations to buy games anymore. BBY and Gamestop. Gamestop has a better selection and does used games better, so no its not going away that easily.

@Doppel 10 years ago there was also alot more competition. If it does close down, its going to take awhile.

Tip: It's not a price drop. That gem's on-sale for one week, nothing more. Microsoft is claiming it's a test of a new pricing scheme, but it's a one-week sale of a piece of eye candy, and it's right before the DLC starts rolling out. They're putting a game on-sale to sell more DLC, that's all. This is literally a one-week sale, so why anyone would believe it's a legitimate testing of a lower pricing model is beyond me.

I mean, seriously. How can they test jack with this plan? The way to test it is having a new game launch digitally for less than the physical version. The majority (probably 90%) of those interested in a new copy of Ryse purchased it within those past 3 months. The pool of buyers is very limited, so you're going to gain nothing remotely close to meaningful evidence about pricing based on a one-week sale of a 3-month-old game.

I actually like my local gamestop, I'm friends with some of the people that work there and it's literally 5 mins from my house. I really prefer digital downloads ever since my xbox 360's disc tray stopped working. I'll pick up a new game almost anywhere including gamestop, Walmart, or best buy, but for used games I go to gamestop every time hands down. I've only had one bad experience in gamestop ever and that was when gears of war 3 came out. I preordered the game and paid the whole thing off but when it came time to pick the game up they told me they had no record of me preordering the game.

They will preorder any game you want. If you want a game on pc you can preorder it and have a copy shipped to the store for you at release. That may be the only copy they get but they do sell pc games. Just because they dont stock 500 copies of battlefield 4 for pc doesn't mean they dont sell them.

Rumors of xb one going without a disc drive, and they presumably are OK with buying most of their content via the online store. I still prefer discs, I just do. Nothing can replace having a physical collection of whatever you paid money to own, not borrow.

I like both physical and digital copies of games, but if my disc drive breaks like my 360 did, then I have a bunch of games I can't play 🙁 Also have you heard of anyone's digital copy getting revoked or "taken back"? I haven't.

You don't think as many PS4 owners download their games?

Seems to me that some like to download, and some like to have physical copies... And that has nothing to do with the console.

But like it or not, physical media is most definitely trending away. More games are downloaded with each console generation.

They did kill gaming. AAA gaming is shit these days; if it doesn't contain QTE moments, k001 tak3d0wnz, and an arbitrarily-dramatic story line explicitly slapping the player in the face with the drama dong (looking at you, TLoU)...gamers don't pay attention.
