I can't believe that some would have us copying some of the same things that Sweden has been doing! It makes me so insanely angry! How could they do this?

Aww don't ruin the fun! I tend to agree, that socialism as a structure can never work in our country as well as a place like Sweden can produce. Not just for the reasons you speak of, but there is also the ingrained corruption issue to deal with.

That's a little cold, to call them losers. Many of the metrics with which to measure how well a country is doing (freedom of speech, average lifespan, infant mortality rate, level of literacy/education, etc), show Sweden to be at or above the levels of the United States.

I think they're doing just fine, certainly their economy is more fundamentally solid than ours (they run a trade surplus, for example, as well as having dramatically lower debt ratio vs income per capita).

Do I think Swedish socialism would work in the United States? Not a chance. But to deny that it works alright for them is a little insane.

I think he's saying that welfare for someone of similar heritage is easier to swallow than someone different.

IE: Easier to stomach paying welfare for a fellow white/blonde hair/blue eyed guy than a black guy.

Not that Swedes are losers.

You misunderstood me. The Swedes willingly pay to support the unemployed Swedish (blonde hair blue eyed brethren) losers of their country welfare without batting an eye. Why do you think it's nearly impossible to emigrate to these socialist utopias? They are xenophobes, they would not pay to support non-Swedes. Sure they allow some asylum seekers to their country and take a neutral stance in foreign policy to appear like they aren't racists, but Europeans are the most racist people on the planet.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. Although I am a first-generation American of Swedish descent (dad is from Goteborg, Sweden, emigrated in 1969), I don't have the experience either to confirm or deny your assertions related to European racism. Given the proven anti-semitism prevalent in 20th century Europe, you may well be correct.
