Actually Sweden has a high rate of immigration, 18 % of the population are immigrants or have parents that immigrated. JS80 is of course an idiot for calling swedes xenophobes, what do you know about that? Sweden has a market economy just like the US, and if you look at the list of the worlds 50 richest people you'll find a couple of swedes there's plenty of rich people here too..
Of course a PN commie would think inter-european immigration really counts as immigration. I'll trade you one of our blonde hair blue eyed swedes for one of your blonde hair blue eyed norweigian
That's moronic, in the last 15 years most of the immigrants have come from the middle east. You have no idea what you are talking about but still you continue with your BS. That´s pretty sad.

Not only does your article not disprove anything, but it shows the disdain for minorities that plagues Sweden.
Exactly. The article he used had very few numbers, the ones it did show were of a very, very small refuge population, not of permanent immigrants. Not to mention it compares Sweden to Norway in attempting to show how much better off they would be without these refugees.

Sweden is very homogeneous.
Of course you know better, I only live here.. In fact I live in a neighborhood were about 50 % are immigrants from the middle east, ex-yugoslavia etc. Of the 100 000 immigrants that came to Sweden in 2007, 50 % came from Europe incl. Turkey and 40+ % from Asia and Africa.
The fact that you live there is irrelevant. Numbers and facts mean more than your emotions and nationalism.

What you have posted contradicts your earlier post, too.
So where is your proof that Sweden is so very homogeneous? Have you even been to Sweden? If you visited any major city here you would know how wrong you are. Of course Sweden is not as ethnically diverse as the US. Just 40 years ago the population here consisted of almost 100 % ethnic swedes and a few finns.

Of course since Sweden is part of the EU, other europeans can come here to work very easily so there will be a lot of movement within the EU. Anyway I think it's been established that Sweden accepts a lot of immigrants. 100 000 in one year, that more than 1 % of the population and a large part of them come from Asia and Africa.

The Swedes have taken in a lot of Iranian and other Middle East refugees in the last decade.

Great Comedy Central piece. I especially liked the intro-Swedish meatballs, Sesame Street chef, etc.

I didn't claim that Sweden is very homogeneous in this thread.

Whether or not someone has been to Sweden is irrelevant. Anecdotal evidence is useless.

I know! I couldn't stay in a country that turns women into statuesque pleasure creatures and men into gnomes! And what's with all of the Ikea stores here? They're just taking advantage of our capitalist system for their own communist ideas!
Sarcasm all you like dude. I'm staying here.

Yeah right, like the Asians aren't. Hell Asians are racist against other Asians.
Let me rephrase. The Europeans are the most racist relevant people on the planet.
Yeah...asians aren't relevant. Lets just get rid of China, India, and Japan,
and see how well the USA fares then.

Don't tone it down.

Asians are just as relevant, and just as racist.

The irony is that your average Swede probably has a higher quality of life and a better standard of living than your average American.

That's pretty easy to agree with. Which is not so much a basis for making a judgment about the pros/cons of their political structure, but more of a general observation of the obvious.

Swedes are intelligent, industrious, optimistic people, I think they would be rather successful with almost any political structure.

Many of the metrics with which to measure how well a country is doing (freedom of speech, average lifespan, infant mortality rate, level of literacy/education, etc), show Sweden to be at or above the levels of the United States.

I think they're doing just fine, certainly their economy is more fundamentally solid than ours (they run a trade surplus, for example, as well as having dramatically lower debt ratio vs income per capita).

Do I think Swedish socialism would work in the United States? Not a chance. But to deny that it works alright for them is a little insane.
One of the factors that determines a nation's standard of living and quality of life is the rationality factor:

How do people in the society treat one another? Do people act rationally or self-destructively? Is there a large amount of crime? Do women pump out crack babies like rabbits having litters? What is the average IQ? Do people irresponsibly have more children than they can afford? Is there a large amount of unplanned pregnancy without abortions? Is the government corrupt, inept, and dysfunctional? Does the nation import impoverished people, displacing its own people from jobs and driving down wages? Does the nation import people from cultures that do not have the "rationality factor"? Does the government fall all over itself to waste huge amounts of money criminalizing consensual behavior (like prostitution, assisted suicide, and smoking marijuana)?

I'm not an expert on Sweden and I may be wrong, but I'm under the impression that part of the Swedes' success is that they have the rationality factor whereas the U.S. does not. Even with welfare statism, the rationality factor can take you a long way.

Coincidentally, even with moderated capitalism, a large irrationality factor can sink you.

So, in your opinion, they posses the "rationality factor" <g>.
