Poor hampster. He'll pull through, I hope. If he's in stable but critical, I bet he'll pull through.

"headline doesn't seem to match the article. of course, what is a good recovery? "

people can recover from brain injury, although I don't know the odds. Jerry Nadeau and Ernie Irvan are NASCAR drivers that recovered from brain injuries to the point they could lead somewhat normal lives. Ernie Irvan even competed in NASCAR after his injury, and I believe he won at least once.

Don't be such a d!ck. He hosts a car programme with JC and JM and has driven more supercars then probably all of us combined here.

Got an update from the BBC1 6o'clock news that he is going to suffer from brain damage :(

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.

The link I have is the updated one. The one in NFS original post is an earlier one.

I hope Richard pulls through

After looking at those pics, I gotta say, the car must have slowed down quite a bit before flipping over. The pics of NASCAR crashes I've seen at speed usually dont leave much of the car in very good shape. And they only do about 190! Looking at the wrecked dragster, it's still in pretty good shape. I think he's in better condition than these news sites are speculating. Seems to be sensationalized a bit. Either way though, I hope he gets through this alright. GOD SAVE THE HAMSTER!

cant believe it !

hopefully he'll be ok, but this morning he is said to be stable but with a serious brain injury (though i would of thought any brain injury is pretty serious lol)

i wonder if TG will be on at all now. maybe just may and clarkson will present the show. but if hamster had any features left to film, they'l be short.

i doubt hammond will be back for this seasons TG, but TG magazine does have the able Tom Ford who presents 5th gear and id guess he's as good a stand in for hammond as you can get.

To a doctor that could mean a massive concussion. Still very serious but not on the same scale of a lobotomy.

So sounds like he is going to have brain damage :( Sad thing for a popular program. All these guys seem to be biting it lately or what? First Steve Irwin and now the Hamster.

No we don't have dragsters like you do, but we also don't have much flat and straight land on our small island so it is a feat in some ways.

A top fuel dragstrip only needs to be about a third as long as an airport runway, so I'm sure your small island's geography has little to with it.

"These guys?"

The fear no evil, immortal TV dare devil sort. Ok, a bit of a generalisation...the kind of guys you just don't think would ever get hurt seriously or die from what they do. Probably because TV just doesn't seem so real.

Yup. Spoke right after the accident as well.

I'm also glad to see that the three do seem to be very close, even outside of the show

Latest update from Jeremy's column:
IN the wee small hours of Thursday night, just 30 hours after what is almost certainly the world?s fastest ever car crash, Richard Hammond suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes and asked what had happened.

?You?ve been in a car accident,? I said. ?Was I driving like a tw*t?? he asked, before getting out of bed and walking, shakily, to the lavatory.

His wife, Mindy, couldn?t believe her eyes. None of us could. It really did seem that he?d had a look through death?s door and decided he didn?t like what he saw on the other side.

Later, he looked across at James May and said: ?Hello C**k face.?

Despite all the odds, it seemed we?d got our Hamster back . . .
He didn?t look very ?rallied? to me. In fact, he looked like a Klingon, with a massively swollen eye and a huge lump on his forehead. The only good news, so far as I could see, was that his teeth were still as shiny and bright as ever.

It?s genuinely hard to know how Mindy could be so upbeat when her husband was so badly dented. They?d just exchanged contracts on a new house. They were about to take out a joint mortgage. And yet, she was still cheerful. James May and I weren?t. May even admits to having been ?a bit unmanly? at one point.
And there was some hope. While James was leaning over, whispering to our bashed-up friend, Mindy started to stroke his hair and I noticed the hamster?s heart rate had shot up from 60 to 75 beats per minute.

?Christ, James. He thinks you?re doing the stroking,? I yelled.

Quickly, the heart beat settled down again. Then came the moment when I said: ?The reason you?re here mate is because you?re a c**p driver.?

And he smiled.

I knew then that he was going to pull through. And God it was a relief.

awsome news NFS4 :D

if anything seems wrong about him now is that he seems to swear alot more than he used to :p hope he gets 100% recovery, apart from the swearing, that would be ok
