Condition in OP's link now upgraded to "serious" and "stable." Hopeful news!

It?s on the news now, some papers are stating 315 Mph, and others are saying 280MPH at the time of the crash.

They say it could be something to do with the parachute deploying early. Also apparently his head and helmet was buried under ground and they had to dig him out.

Also apparently he was able to talk when he was being air lifted. Thank god.

God Bless :(

I have a subscription to Motor Trend, Road & Track and Autoweek and I live and breathe Formula One Racing. So, yes...I'd say I like cars.

I used to be like that about four years ago. I would buy around 5 different car mags a month. I would read them back to front religiously, and i still have about 2 years worth stowed away. :D

It?s sad when you know the stats down to a tee, with a wide range of different model make of cars.

All I ever used to think about were cars. Heh, times have changed, but I love them all the same.

I like Autoweek because of the current racing news. The other two I just keep renewing because they are cheap. I actually rarely read one cover to cover. I might read a few of the articles and look at what future cars are coming out but that's about it.

Richard is 'improving'
Richard Hammond is 'improving' but remains seriously ill in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car.

The accident happened during filming for the new series of Top Gear at the former RAF airfield in Elvington, near York.

Richard was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary's neurological unit. A hospital spokesman said this morning: "He has seen some improvement overnight, but remains in a serious but stable condition."

Richard's wife Mindy and their daughters Willow and Isabella are at his bedside. We'll update you on his condition as we find out more, but for now our thoughts are with his family.

We've spoken to Jeremy this morning - he's visited Richard and Mindy in Leeds and you can read his statement here.

Obviously the crash will be fully investigated by the Health and Safety Executive and the BBC.

The BBC said in a statement: "We are looking into all the factors of this accident and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage until we know the full situation."

----------------

Jeremy arrives at Leeds
Jeremy and James have arrived at Leeds General Infirmary to visit Richard and his family.

Jeremy told TopGear.com: "Richard remains in intensive care. Obviously at this time both he and his family are the most important concerns we have. It must be devastating for his wife Mindy and his two utterly adorable children.

"I would just like to say how heartened Richard will be when I tell him just how many motorists and truck drivers on my way here wound down their windows to say they were rooting for him. Both James and I are looking forward to getting our Hamster back."

In addition, we've already received a number of emails at TopGear.com wishing Richard well. If you'd like to add your thoughts, please email us.

We'll post some of your messages on the website and do our best to make sure Richard receives them all.

"We know that the show... is the most pirated TV show in the world, beating programmes like Lost and Desperate Housewives.

hahah:)

Nonetheless, pressure group Transport 2000 called for the show to be taken off the air and replaced with a programme that promoted "sensible driving in sensible vehicles".
yeah, everyone would watch that:laugh:

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.
headline doesn't seem to match the article. of course, what is a good recovery?
