Is it me, or are all these charges super light?

For example, the guy who beat up a cop is only charged with "obstructing a LEO" ?????

Sounds like most of these guy will probably never even see jail time once the lawyers whittle away at everything.

I read the other day, these simple charges are just to get the people charged and into the system. As the FBI gathers more evidence, the ones guilty of more serious crimes will be charged.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

"This photo was on Lauren Boebert’s Instagram the day before the terrorist attacked. Some of the people have been identified as participants"

FWIW. Snopes says, the Photo is from 2019 in Colorado.

This photograph does not show Boebert on the steps of the U.S. Capitol the day before a pro-Trump mob launched an attack. It actually shows Boebert on the steps of Colorado’s capitol building in December 2019 with a group of extremists who appear to be displaying white supremacist symbols.

Yeah, while reading that, I was amazed there wasn't an Assaulting an Officer charge...maybe it's still to come like @BoomerD stated.
I mean...people get charged with Obstructing an Officer for not telling them something is in their pocket before getting frisked...I would think this instance would carry more weight and punishment, surely?

Obstruction is a deliberately vague term so the fascists in charge can do whatever the fuck they want to the underclasses.

Unrelated:
The fascists in charge (just like the Nazi's before them) have done a fantastic job convincing ordinary Americans they're the freedom loving underdogs fighting a war against tyranny. Fox News has done its job very well and I am sad tens of people of people fell for it.

I can't tell from that whether it is or is not true that some of those in the picture took part in the Capitol assault.

Also I wonder how it came to be miscaptioned? Was it a deliberate attempt to mislead, or did someone get over-excited and genuinely think that was the (DC) Capitol building?

Cool, so not dc on the 5th, but posing with racists a short while back. Dunno if that's makes it better

Not just racist. Part of the Group was "Three Percenters", an anti-government extremist militia.

Snopes as links the article on her Tweets.

Before the riot at the Capitol broke out, Boebert wrote on Twitter that she would “fight with everything I have to ensure the fairness of the election.” The congresswoman also tweetedToday is 1776,”

She is Tweeting "Today is 1776" on the day of the attacks. This looks like a Call for revolution. I wonder how many followers of her Twitter account were in the Mob.

She is a despicable human being, whether she believes the nonsense she is spewing or not. But it seems dubious there is enough for criminal prosecution.

So hilarious that these idiots who have been ranting about the government coming to take their guns are actually going to have the government take theirs guns following their felony convictions. Lol

As someone who has had a felony record for almost 50 years...and who maybe owned guns and LEGALLY hunted for most of that time...just a felony record won't stop them from owning guns.

Take advantage of restoration laws? Perhaps.

My concern is if just one of them decides to go down in a blaze of glory they may inspire copycats and thats not a fucking joke.
Our country is at the boiling point. Yes its caused by morons who never learned how to control their anger, but here we are and I'm genuinely worried.

Watching all these arrests is a bit like watching the end of a crime movie. You know where they finally get the evidence or crack the code and there is a montage of police kicking down various doors or arresting people at work. Very satisfying

Bah. I'm not that worried. Yes, we could see some violence, but it will be dealt with quickly by the US military. I'm always amazed at people when they say that they need their guns to fight off the US military if it comes down to their survival. Hoo are you going to take on the US governemt with a few dozen overweight, out of shape middle aged slobs? There would be no contest. :D

I think the bigger problem (more so than anger management), is their apparent inability to discern shit from shinola.

I think its all connected.

Ignorance combined with a desire to blindly believe leads to fear. Fear can be quickly turned into hate. Hate eventually becomes violence in the street. It took decades to get us here but about half of America is now religious fundamentalist terrorists. We are exactly like Iraq, and for basically the same reason. All human brains work pretty similar. If I had not been raised in a household of critical intellectuals I'd be a very different person.

I won't say that we're as bad as Iraq, because we at least have a secular constitution to serve as a foundation for law making. Unfortunately, it's a constant battle to get yahoos to read it and/or understand it.

Yeah, I expected as much. They'll have location pings from any devices on the grounds, since the building has it's own cellular network system. No need to connect to wifi to leave a mark...

Good, in my opinion. It might look like overreach by BigBro, but what did they expect? If they hadn't gone inside, they'd have done nothing wrong.
Much different than pulling all cell phone data in a city block. Here, everyone in there except employees was committing a crime. So you aren't violating thousands of innocents to catch one criminal.

I assume they are charging light to start with for speed and to pick them up. I expect much heavier charges later. Picking them will also make it easier to search their phones, etc. And get them to talk.

And thank good these morons only know the final clause of the 2nd, because it's obvious none of them know about the 5th.

Yeah press coference talking all about this:

Initial charges is the just to pick them up.
Expectation is hundreds of cases eventually.
Strike force to focus on Felony Sedition and Conspiracy charges. Up to 20 year sentences possible.
Next focus on assaults on Federal and Local officers, people will be shocked by assaults on officers.

Basically they are looking to set strong examples, and claimed no one was getting away.

Here is the 22 minute Press Conference:

Remember that St Louis attorney, Al Watkins, that initially represented the gun toting attorney couple pointing their guns at BLM protesters? He’s representing the Qanon Shaman. He was just on CNN with Cuomo.
