I would assume that if the victims family sued all the records would have to be turned over in discovery.

Yes, and they are planning on suing from what I've read. However, a judge could order that sensitive information be kept under seal, and can impose contempt citations for anyone publicly disclosing the information. I don't know if any of that will happen, but it's possible.

On the legal side, however, there is also FOIA. Babbit's husband has made a FOIA request which was not complied with and has sued to force them to comply. I'm not an expert on what does and does not have to be turned over in response to a FOIA request, so I couldn't predict how that would turn out.

It's very reasonable (and precedent) to not release officers' names when that release is likely to bring danger to the officer. It's pretty clear that would be the case here as there has already been one buy arrested who had serious and real plans to harm the officer that is suspected to have shot Babbitt.

Dan Abrams and another lawyer had a conversation on his SiriusXM show weeks back. In the guest's opinion (I just can't remember who it was) it's highly unlikely for the name to be released.

Yes it does make sense, but Greenman's question is legit in the sense that this sort of rule is not always followed. Consider all the cases where a police officer's shooting of a black person has been covered by national news and sometimes there are protests or riots over the incident. Yet the officer is named in those in spite of risks to the officer.

Greenman's question is bullshit intended to divert attention from the rioters & the people who sent them onto supposed misconduct by the defenders of the Capitol. It's quite remarkable that Ashlii was the only person shot, all things considered. Were it not for Trump's mind fuckery of the Big Lie of the stolen election she'd still be alive & none of these poor fools would be going to jail, either.

Yahoo is not news, but I found the story on BI via MSN:

"A Pennsylvania pizzeria owner arrested and charged in connection to the January 6 Capitol attack, demanded the removal of "any and all" defense attorneys on her behalf, arguing that she is a divine entity immune from the court's laws."

"Now, in a series of bizarre court filings made late last month, Bauer is insisting on representing herself and is claiming to have special legal privileges as a "self-governed individual." "

Some officials from the local bunch of these wackos just bought a house a couple of doors up the street from me:

Fortunately, it's basically a vacation house for them, not their full time residence.

Yahoo is a news aggregator, and usually links directly to their sources.

Just another idiot sovereign.

Exactly. It isn't news. It's like posting a link to the Duck or any other search engine or aggregator. I'm starting to feel the same about UPI in recent months. They used to be a source, but now they just seem to be another regurgitator.

Then Microsoft News followed them right off the cliff. Every other "article" is a click bait setup.

You seem to be confusing "journalism" with "news," and claiming a link to a yahoo news copypasta is the same as linking to a search engine is nonsense.

She is going with the sovereign citizen defense. She is about to get a little reality check there. When right wing conspiracy comes into contact with reality via the court system it does not fare well.
That defense has been tried in literally hundreds of cases, and never has a court even entertained the idea for a moment.

Are you by any chance familiar with Gordon Kahl?

I am familiar with his story. I've attended several court cases where someone was trying to claim that the US government can not tax them because they uttered the magic words 'Sovereign Citizen'.
My favorite case is United States v. Kenneth Wayne Leaming where the court wrote in the ruling:

The Court, therefore, feels some measure of responsibility to inform Defendant that all the fancy legal-sounding things he has read on the internet are make-believe

So you complain that Yahoo isn't news (which it does actually have some of its own news but I think those are specialized like Sports and pop culture, although it does mostly function as an aggregator), then link the same (or similar) Business Insider article (which is the source of the Yahoo link) on MSN? Seems bizarre to bitch then do the exact same thing?

MAGA rioter gets pre-trial release by proving that he was too stupid to know what building he was in.

The “I’m too stupid to dunnit” defense. So he thought he was storming the White House and not the Capitol? Isn’t that still a crime? I can’t see how this makes him any less of a menace to society. Why would he want to storm the White House? His Messiah was bunkered down in there.

If he didn’t know which building he was storming on January 6th, that doesn’t bode well for him showing up for his trial. He may think he’s going to the courthouse and wind up at say ... Arby’s.

'I’d like to plead ‘no contest, your honor.’

‘Sir, this is the Arby’s drive-thru.’

Is that a variant of the chewbacca defense?

During the insurrection, Jim Jordan grabbed Liz Cheney and said, “We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you.” Cheney slapped his hand away and said, “Get away from me. You fucking did this.”

She learned that one from Melania.

He probably just wanted to escort her out in case he needed a human shield.

To bad Liz didn't just deck him and laid him the fuck out.

Makes me almost like her. But, then I remember all the polices that she voted against that would help people, especially voting rights.

Wait, so those people ARE Trump supporters? I thought they were all Antifa posing as honest god-fearing red-blooded Americans.

Or maybe the Trump supporters were coerced to go into the Capitol, and they were the only ones arrested while the Antifa masterminds just walked out with a nod and wink to CNN and the cops.

It's just so hard to keep it all straight!
Conspiracy theorists never care about consistency, at all. If they did there would be very few conspiracies.
