the government is more corrupt than the most corrupt corporation

Can someone please explain to me why this is acceptable?

The government can flat out lie to us. The government can fudge unemployment numbers to make itself look better. The government can fudge financials, shifting money, double counting income, "forgetting" to account for expenses.

How is it that the government is allowed to be more corrupt than corporations?

Because the big corporate interests (Wall St, big oil, big Ag, etc.) funnel plenty of 'campaign contributions' to the right Congresscritters to make sure the corruption continues, as the corruption is all slanted to provide the cronyism we see today.

They're not. You're just asserting that they are and then asking for an explanation. There are tons of corporations that are incredibly corrupt and inefficient. See, for example, the auto industry for decades before the crash for inefficiency, or Monsanto for corruption, or Lehman Brothers for long-term hiding of numbers from investors and the public, or tons of others.

Then you're just pretending that the government is fudging unemployment numbers because a better economy isn't what you want to believe, so therefore you assume it's false and work from there. Typical conspiracy theory foolishness. Any evidence that you're wrong just becomes evidence of a cover-up in your mind.

I believe, perhaps incorrectly, that the interests of the wealthy take precedence over the interest of the many because money has been deemed to be speech by the Supreme Court. Elections outcomes are bought and paid for. In my opinion every organization and every interested citizen should band together to deal with this one issue. We need either a constitutional amendment to fix this, or a political revolution of one kind or another. Nothing real can happen, again in my opinion, unless this problem is fixed. This is the only issue anybody should ever discuss in public. America is asleep to this, I think. We have no hope because alone we can do nothing. But the past has many examples of how one person can change the world.

I believe in bettering each generation. So he will probably trump me.

Are you saying the government is not corrupt? That they don't lie to us? That they don't fudge numbers?

All governments are inherently corrupt. The beauty of American Democracy is that it greatly limits and channels that corruption compared to other systems.

Those here that genuflect to the government are going to discount this thread still further. Their religion is the best religion and they aren't going to sit by and let no outsider bash it. They've declared a Jihad on you.

The answer to your question is, because we let them.

This is a joke, right?

The US government is easily one of the most corrupt there are. What is amazing is how efficient they are at brainwashing Americans into thinking otherwise.

^^^Symptom of media bias. Scrutinize any government you think is less corrupt than us and you'll be surprised what you find.

In some cases, yes. In other cases, no. Same for corporations, and charities, and any other group that has every had power. It also changes over time. The Nixon administration was obviously hugely more corrupt than, say, the Adams administration, but less corrupt than the Harding administration. We could point to 'good' corporations like Google (who have their own flaws in reality, obviously), or terrible ones like Lehman Brothers, the tobacco industry after they knew the health effects, or the lead paint industry after they knew the health effects. For that matter, the NFL has been pretty evil lately covering up concussions, and FIFA is about as corrupt as organizations get. But there are also corporations that have made technologies that improve people's lives, like making cars cheap enough for everyone to have additional freedom, or inventing cheaper food so fewer people starve; and there are charities that are corrupt, and some that help billions.

You should be skeptical of government, but it's foolish to either 1) think that government is somehow uniquely flawed, as opposed to people being flawed, and 2) think that government is ALWAYS corrupt/evil/lying, when sometimes it's efficient and a force for good. Certainly not always, but sometimes.

It is difficult to discern which is more corrupted. Mainly because the 2 are so closely intertwined. Many time Politicians and Government Bureaucrats are just people in between Corporate jobs.

That's because government is mostly a revolving door from industry and back again. Obama basically had Goldman Sach's boardroom in his administration. I'd argue that this not some anomaly, but has always been this way. The desire to influence government has always existed. The money interests just have not had the immense wealth that they have now. Getting money out of politics is nearly impossible since they are firmly entrenched. The only way to fix it starts with the letter R and ends in N.
