loved that movie.

a couple months after that movie came out, my dad took me and a friend up to where they filmed a bunch of the places in the movie (Astoria, wasn't it?). one of my best memories from childhood :)

I've never seen it. Yet I still feel complete and human.

You are fucking worse than the OP. Go spend two of the best hours of your life watching this movie... and wondering 'WTF is the octopus?'

And OP, I mean that in the best way possible. I'm glad you saw it. Regardless of how old you are now, if you were old enough to think about telling us then you should have seen it earlier in life. ;)

haha, I was wondering wth Data was talking about to the reporter at the end. I thought maybe I got up and missed the octopus part but after watching the deleted scene on youtube it makes sense.

the truffle shuffle!

that hey you guys is hilarious too

it was disappointing and annoying.

That was my opinion coming out of the theater in 1985. Felt like the wife and I had wasted our money. Maybe I did not 'get it' because I was already 28yo and this is a kid movie.

That sounds about right. I saw it in the movies when I was 12 and came out thinking it was a rush. This movie was aimed right at 7 - 13 year olds, IMO.

Me and my roommate went through a huge list of classic movies. We hit up The Goonies, Aladin, The Jungle Book etc etc.

Classic.

It is a bit vintage to have been part of my childhood experience.

You're dating yourself, or rather you're not . . . or I am. Bah! Never mind!

"Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life."

Need Goonies on Blu-ray.

Why, is it magically going to restore the quality to old 80's film

Probably, the DVD's we "used" to watch are lower resolution transfers of the original movie film Masters.

Goonies was shot in 35mm film ( ~3 to 12 million pixels per frame vs 2 million pixels per frame for HD video) at a 2:35 aspect. It should transfer very well to HD Video.

MTF studies ("lines" resolution vs "Pixel" resolution) have shown even professionals have a hard time teling the difference between 35mm film and HD resolution video. If I'm not mistaken even Super 16mm has a high enough MTF for decent HD video transfers.

I believe you answered that question!
