Ok, so a few years ago I saw the first 15 min of the movie and it seemed pretty good.

I just finished watching it on TV and ZOMG!!@#! it is amazing. Wow, best movie I have seen in a long time.

i remember hearing it mentioned a lot. i watched it for the first time last month...it was disappointing and annoying.

That was my opinion coming out of the theater in 1985. Felt like the wife and I had wasted our money. Maybe I did not 'get it' because I was already 28yo and this is a kid movie.

Probably, the DVD's we "used" to watch are lower resolution transfers of the original movie film Masters.

Goonies was shot in 35mm film ( ~3 to 12 million pixels per frame vs 2 million pixels per frame for HD video) at a 2:35 aspect. It should transfer very well to HD Video.

MTF studies ("lines" resolution vs "Pixel" resolution) have shown even professionals have a hard time teling the difference between 35mm film and HD resolution video. If I'm not mistaken even Super 16mm has a high enough MTF for decent HD video transfers.

Well, they did a really good job transferring to DVD, so I would guess if they wanted on BluRay or HD they would make the effort to perform a quality transfer.


I loved the commentary and extras. They had the entire original cast and Richard Donner.

The movie was filmed near I was living at the time, so I knew quite a few people that worked on the soundstage and played extras ect. It was a big deal in the community as I remember, and then being suprised that it was actually a great (kids) movie. I watched it a couple times, but my kids have watched it over and over again.

I watched it on one of the HD channels with the kids a few weeks ago 🙂
I still remember going to see it in the theater when I was a kid 😀
