Pop/soda
Toilet paper
Computer stuff
Christmas lights
Condoms
Bread
Potato Chips
Condiments (Relish, Ketchup, Mustard, etc)
Batteries

Anything that "Great Value" touches is horrible, any other brand, including other generics, is better.

All computer stuff. Had too many issues.
Ditto guns. That Cobra Arms is only a hundred bucks for a reason.
Cola. But most other soda pop's are fine in generic.
And most recently, underpants. I have much more comfort with fancy Adidas and Tommy's than the cheap stuff.

since wtf was there generic computer hardware?

There are some generics that are effective and high quality enough to be worth the embarrassment at the counter and sometimes socially acceptable in front of your friends but for the most part there are obvious reasons why brands carry their image and generics being frowned upon. You certainly don't want to be seen in public wearing generic clothes like Wrangler or anything from K-Mart and the likes but it's OK to take generic aspirin as long as it is known to be effective.

Methinks you need different friends.

Nabisco Nilla Wafers. Tried store brands and they tasted terrible.
Electronics. I would rather spend my money on name brand TV/receiver/speakers than save a few bucks for those cheapo that don't last.
Charmin toilet paper. Nothing else.

I buy everything brand name with the exception of butter, milk and eggs because the store brand is fresher from local dairies and farms.

You get embarrassed at the counter buying generic products? Who are you, Paris Hilton or something?

Jesus.

For many foodstuffs the generic (or supermarket own brand) version is much healthier as well as cheaper. The premium brand stuff is often made to taste better mainly by putting more fat, salt and sugar in it.

Did use to have a cat that would rather starve than eat anything other than one particular expensive brand cat food though. I would try to get it to eat something cheaper but I always gave in before it did.

Generic Cheerios, "Toasted Oats," do not even have the same texture. The flavor has always been WAY off to the trained tongue.

There's generic stuff I like much better than name brand. I was getting some kind of off brand vegetable juice for awhile that was much better than V8. I've also been getting canned asparagus from BigLots that's far and away better than the big names. I don't know if it's generic or not, but the label looks like it(Liberty Gold).

Edit:
Generics in general have gotten much better over the years. When I was little, some of them were pure crap. Now, they're almost all at least decent, if not exceptional.

When I crave this cereal I cannot settle for the generic: http://www.quakeroats.com/products/oat-cereals/natural-granola/oats-and-honey.aspx

I was not thrilled with the taste of the last bottle of generic mouthwash (CVS brand) I got so my most recent bottle is Listerine.

Just recently went to the grocery store and saw some generic brand yoghurt. Nutrition info didn't look as good as the stuff I normally buy (less protein) so I went with Mountain High.

Anyway, it depends. I always check out the generic stuff. Usually it's fine or at least good enough. Sometimes I want something specific and I'll get it if so.

90%% percent; of generics now are re-badged name brand shit, you can pretty much tell if you should stay away from a product by looking at it now, imo

Even if its a frozen/non-fresh necessary type item you can tell when to stay away, shady is as shady does

edit: omg percent sign is illegal %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

edit: sarcasm very strong, on the record

Cola. Some store brands are ok but so are really sickly sweet. Worse than Pepsi to the point of being undrinkable. It's Coca-Cola or nothing.

Wal-Mart's tartar sauce is also pretty gross. Way too much dill.

i prefer diet shasta to any other diet cola, tbh.

but nothing beats diet dr pepper.

edit: same with the store-brand anti-dandruff shampoo (neutrogena T-Gel alternative.) smells better, same effectiveness.

what about the reverse? I'm thinking of the meat counter at my local grocery store. even their brats are better than the name brand. just about anything with the name hormell is so processed that it isn't real meat any more.

I can tell you right now that generic walmart cinnamon toast crunch does not taste anywhere near as good as the name brand.

I know that some generic foods are just way worse than name brand and sometimes opposite can be true.
