Goose-be-gone. It's a spray that you put on grass, the geese won't eat the grass anymore because one of the ingerdients, some kind of natural oil I think, tastes horrible to them. So they won't flock to golf courses and stuff.

Fencing aroud lakes and ponds. Doesn't have to be very high or very visible, just a couple of wires surrounding the water works.

Get rid of open spaces. Not practical in all cases but if it was your backyard you could do some landscaping. They don't like obstacles, like fences.

Floating balls and things in the water. Some company even makes a fake croc head that bobs up and down in the water, I think their photo looks photochopped to me. link

Harrass them. They like to be left alone, harrass them for long enough with loud noises, dogs, laseres, etc and they'll eventually go away.

Non-lethal Canadian Goose control

Why do I know about this? I had to give a presentation for my applied ecology class on pest management and my animal was geese. Did you know that an adult geese craps 2lbs a day?

Only if the laser is powerful enough to burn a hole in them! :)

My car does. Once a goose managed to drop one right on the door handle to my car. Their crap is more comparable in size to dogs than birds. Imagine what it's like to have a pack of dogs crapping in an area and that's what it's like to have geese.

If I'm using the jogging trail I wear shoes and if I want to play frisbee or something I simply go to another park. Yes, they come out on the road sometimes but it's not that big of a deal.
OK.
They are all over the place around here. Every schoolyard, park, backyard, beach, pond, etc.
I can't even walk on my boat dock without stepping in goose sh|t.

I really do not want to see them all killed, as they are definitely beautiful, but it sure would be nice if they could be relocated to the wilderness where they really belong.

Again, does anyone know how to get the geese to go somewhere else? (besides the grave)
Airports are using a variety of methods, some involving falcons, dogs, and I even saw a thing on a robotic falcon. Obviously, the problem of geese hanging around the tarmac has somewhat more serious consequences than someone stepping in doo-doo, and they manage to find a way of dealing with it without killing them.

only because ammunition around highly explosive compounds is generally not a good idea.

There's a simple and elegant solution to the geese problem. Geese like water, if you don't like geese don't live near the water.

And it's not the normal white bird crap either, all brown and nasty, just like the dogs.

actually, it is illegal to kill migatory canadian geese. these are geese that have chosen to make a home in NJ and don't fly south for the winter, they are here year round.

They're still covered by the MBTA, even if they have taken up permanent residence.

i don't know. i don't know the law, but i know they've been talking about killing the geese in NJ for a long time. it is a very significant problem. some of you may not think so because you don't live in NJ, but it is.

the biggest problem is they don't have any natural predators. hence man must do the weeding out.

we have a similar problem with Deer in NJ. too many deer and it actually causes traffic problems. hitting a Deer at night with you car is NOT a pleasant happenstance.

It's my understanding that, regardless of whether the geese in question actually migrate or not, if they are one of the listed species, then they are still covered under the MBTA.
