Maybe this movie is what Mel Gibson should have made, instead of his "Apocalypto", which also depicted Spain's first forays in the Land of the Mayas. The movie seemed a little too eager to approve of animal vivisection (the monkey's brain surgery). And what was the point of the guy (Hugh Jackman) losing his wedding ring at the scrub station?

He lost his wife to his work. Wasted precious time they should have been together and while he ultimately found what he sought in his work, by then her time was already up. The ring is one symbol of his life together with his wife, which he lost even before she died.

I just saw this movie for the first time and am somewhat mixed about it. It does have a story, it does have a plot, but I'm not certain I liked how it was treated. A little less ethereal and a little more emotion/action driven would have told the story better. The story has emotion but it's very one dimensional in scope.
