I thought the movie was superb and beautiful. It's a lot like A Space Odyssey 2001, either you get it, or you don't. It's not supposed to 'explain' anything, but to show a journey.

It is now one of my favorite movies. After watching it, my mind literally was destroyed, and I began trying to think and how to explain it to my roomie who was equally as destroyed but wasn't able to put it all together. However, I had to quit trying to formulate the right thoughts to explain it for fear of racking my brain even more. I still have it all figured out deep in my head, but consciously can't quite grasp at it to think it through and figure it out. So, I'll always know about the movie deep in my head, and never be able to really know it. lol

Just ordered it on BD and am picking up the hard cover graphic novel too. It's the original script before he changed it for the second stab at getting it in theaters, so it'll be good to have both versions.

this movie literally blew my mind.

So you get it, but not in the way that you can communicate any aspect of it to anyone else?

I think your mind might actually have been destroyed... literally.

Well the general consensus is that it can't be "got", it can only be"experienced". You see it and then you just know...something...

it completely destroyed my mind, and i ever so enjoyed it as it happened

i mean, as my mind has had time to heal, I can communicate it. But only if you want me to. PM me if you want what I can get out of it.
I also have the entire screenplay, a bonus of the one art book... and I have the original story in graphic novel form. can ya tell I absolutely love the movie? :)

I thought it was some very good commentary on the state of the the dairy industry (as presented through a movie).

That's what it was about, right?

Here's a reminder: watch it.

Terribly mixed opinions on this one. Just finished watching it a half-hour ago: I am very impressed with the movie and might really like it after a second viewing. I don't think I am ready to explain to the 'this is the worst movie ever' critics why I like the movie. I need an hour or so to think it through over a couple of cigarettes and solitude. :)

I just finished watching this movie and I think my brain is twisted up worse than Jackman's legs while in the yoga pose.

My general take away on the movie is that you should embrace life and what you have "now". Time wasted chasing "fountains" to extend your happiness ultimately sidetrack you and precious moments are actually lost instead of gained.

The whole tree/seed thing is a coping mechanism. Through death comes life. Instead visiting a bleak and lifeless tombstone of a loved one, go sit under this beautiful tree that grows with you, your children, and so on.

I think the whole movie is just a reflection on our society and our fixation on death and preventing it, but the inability to cope with it once it becomes a reality.

Maybe this movie is what Mel Gibson should have made, instead of his "Apocalypto", which also depicted Spain's first forays in the Land of the Mayas. The movie seemed a little too eager to approve of animal vivisection (the monkey's brain surgery). And what was the point of the guy (Hugh Jackman) losing his wedding ring at the scrub station?

I liked Wild Wild West better than this steaming pile of moose vomit. IIRC there wasn't even a damned actual fountain in the movie.

I think the "fountain" is a reference to the Fountain of Youth/Life, in the movie it is represented by the tree. In history there's been examples of a "Tree of Life" in different cultures so I suppose the film could've been called "The Tree" but that sounds sorta lame to me. ;)

Just picked this up on DVD. I love the film... really a fan of Aronofsky's work. From the visuals, score, characters, themes, I just dig it.

I enjoyed the movie, but as far as being deep or thought provoking this movie wasn't it. Watch Mulholland Dr or Inland Empire, those movies will make you think for years about what was really supposedly occurring.

This movie really warrants a second or third viewing. Try not to look too deep into it - it's about a man that loves his wife and dedicates himself to finding a cure for her. The movie chronicles a man struggling to come to terms with the fact that his wife will soon be separated from him; a fictitious story as imagined by his wife in the book she writes; and a symbolic, arduous journey into the future (perhaps signifying his dedication to cancer research?) as he escorts his wife (the tree?) to Xibalba, the Mayan place where the dead went to be reincarnated and brought back to life.

I haven't watched the movie in quite some time and am obviously missing some details. Try not to look at things too literally and just get the essence of what it is all about - a love so strong and true, it's timeless. And of course, appreciate the cinematography and original score (Clint Mansell and Kronos Quartet blow your mind..and then some).
