Currently two cruise ships are expected to arrive off Fort Lauderdale today, the Broward county manager is weighing the options on what to do, the Governor, (dickhead Desantis) wants to deny them entrance, one has four dead with CV19 and many more sick. With South FL already getting hammered with outbreak he does have a point, Carnival has 17 ships at sea right now and good luck getting permission from anywhere to dock. Multiple countries have already them turned down, this could wind up getting very, very ugly soon, https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241656586.html These ships are not registered in the US but the Bahama's, by doing so the operator avoids US taxes, environmental laws, ect. Governor Desantis is catching major flack for not issuing a mandatory stay at home order as other states have, I still have to work, (central FL) since my boss is scared if he closes he will lose business to competitors, I am over 60 and genuinely scared at this point.

i don't know what the best solution is but i have little sympathy for anyone stuck on a cruise ship right now. they knew better than to get on those ships and they were all offered the ability to cancel their trips and receive a complete refund.

They can take their sick to the Bahama's. Price you pay to avoid being a part of the US i guess?
300 Americans on that ship can fark right off as well right? Isn't there something in your constitution about not being denied entry?

This is very frightening
Seventeen ships are lined up at Port Miami and Port Everglades, with more than a dozen others hovering miles offshore. Most have only crew aboard, but several still carrying passengers are steaming toward South Florida ports. In SEC filings Tuesday, Carnival said it has more than 6,000 passengers still at sea. New sailings were halted by all major lines on March 13.

Why weren't sailings halted back in Feb after that cruise ship debacle on the west coast. Maybe if this country took action back in early Jan that would have happened.

Maybe they can sail to each country that has passengers and let only those ones off back home?

If you left them off, then our COVID19 numbers will increase.. why do you want to make the President look bad?

Oh, wait, he said he takes no responsibility over this.. yet, has announced that 100,000 deaths is a very good job.

How does that work?? Weird how someone who takes no responsibility is deciding when someone is a success...

Yea, these operators should have noted that situation and stopped right then and there but nope, seems there was $$ to be made. A co-worker just got back from a cruise about a week ago, I told him he was nuts to even get on that thing, he's a huge pro-Trumper and by talking to him it's easy to tell he's a big Hannity fan too.

that explains why people were still going on cruise ships. But these operators know better and should be fined but we cant because they dont operate out of the us.

What they should do is let them in place them in quarantine like the other ships and just get them out of the ocean. It’s inhumane what countries are doing to these ships.
I guess, but clearly South FL already has a big COV19 problem, hospital resources are already strained and there is a huge elderly population throughout the state, is it fair to them to not have any resources available because cruise ships passengers are using them?. Keep in mind these vessels did not sail from FL, IMPO these operators should be ass-raped for even booking any trips and sailing at all in March knowing how this virus was trending.

Still trying to figure out why it hasn't occurred to anyone to just jump overboard and swim for it. They're not 12 miles out in international waters.

Actually they weren't. According to one story I've read a couple called the company prior to the sailing and was told if they canceled they would not get a refund. One of these ships sailed while much of this was still in flux.

the way the cruise ship's are being denied reminds me of the ms st louis and history will look upon this with shame

Honestly, if this were a movie about a pandemic and not a real pandemic we'd be complaining about the director beating us over the head with historical metaphors. But here we are everyone's just like "FuCK tHOsE GuYS" without a moment's pause. We are a totally broken society.

send them back to where they're registered, there has to be a price of avoiding US laws.

on a side note, I wonder what the cruise industry will be like after the pandemic ends, do they even have a business model that will survive?

Did the Florida governor forget that Florida has "ports"
and that cruise ships commonly go to these "ports"
and that cruise ships are well known breeding grounds for "tha sickies"
and that maybe establishing triage\quarantine\whatever you want to call a self contained medical facility to handle a large influx of American citizens that need to be assessed and treated?

Asking for a friend who has a democrat for a governor and is confused why a State would not have anything in place. I don't pay a lot of attention to Florida news so I'm not sure.

there's no problem in Florida, it's business as usual and no lockdown at all according to the useless governor

Better idea send them to the tax haven islands like Bermuda that corporations use to avoid paying taxes and bill it to them.

The previously undisclosed story of Apple’s search for a new tax haven and its use of Jersey is among the findings emerging from a cache of secret corporate records from Appleby, a Bermuda-based law firm that caters to businesses and the wealthy elite.

I wouldn't let them dock in Florida either. Send that ship back to Argentina where it came from. You go on a cruise ship in the middle of a freaking pandemic I have no sympathy for your sob stories. There is no reason to let a bunch of superspreaders into our country when our hospitals are already near the breaking point and will soon cross over that point.
