Remember a few years ago during the Obama admin when one congress member proposed all lawmakers go under monthly randomized drug testing? Most of the Democrats were for it, the Republicans said no. 2 years ago, a GOP lawmaker named Higgins brought it up again and was shot down. His reasoning was that congress should be tested once per term (I'm guessing he meant session term) to make sure lawmakers abide by the same rule society must endure and that people are of sound mind and body.

A thorough drug test would show more than narcotics. Which is why people were against it. If you're taking drugs for depression, mental health issues, brain health, etc. it'll show up.
That sounds like the lamest excuse ever... If that was the criteria for effort towards a goal before giving up nothing in the world would ever get done. Surely you can choose what to screen for or some other metric...

btw, are pilots not screened for depression?

Of course you can. It happens all the time-

The worst test for legislators would probably be a random breathalyzer after lunch...

If you could determine how many drinks someone had in the past week by a urine test, urine tests would be made Federally illegal due to the 4th and 14th Amendments of the US Constitution in about 18 minutes.

And if Cannabis were to be decriminalized Federally, most employers would stop urine testing outside specific work issues since the only thing you're really looking for is cannabis.

If you have a job that randomly tests your urine, you're pretty much safe by Monday morning if you used cocaine, meth, or heroin on Friday night. Just stay away from cannabis, you know, the really really bad one.

Well there's that and there is narcotics use.

I believe so. It used to be that if you wanted to take them you'd have to forfeit your license. FAA revised that rule with a few approved drugs and the requirement to see a specialist every 6 months. First class medical certs are 6 mo for all pilots over the age of 40. First class is ATP or airline transport pilot. I only know this stuff because of people I watch on youtube. If you think about it, it's a small price to pay if you're older than 40 since you have hundreds of lives in your hands.

Vote for no Republican... ever!

Be super careful with your mail-in ballot. Follow every little rule to the letter. One mistake, one tiny error, and a Republican with a magnifying glass will attempt to get it thrown out.
