I could care less if she was born a man. If everything else checks out, and as I am done having kids, it wouldnt matter to me one bit.

That would be a tough hurdle for me to get over but today I don’t think it is that weird.
I actually know a trans woman, I never have viewed her as anything but a woman. I can’t imagine her as a man.
Sometimes I want to bring her up to a guy I know, they would be a nice couple together. Both are smart and able to explain themselves well, both are good listeners and good thinkers, both like technology/science and both have classical craft abilities. One has painting and woodworking the other has mechanical and fixing stuff abilities.
Dude I know would like to move to the area too.

SI Executives: We’ve come under fire that our swimsuit covers objectify women, but it’s always been a huge moneymaker for us. How do we still publish it without causing a feminist backlash.

Mad Men consultant: What if the model is...transgender...dun dun dun.

SI Executives: Brilliant! Now all we need is for JK Rowling to tweet about it.

Thought experiment, if the only thing that separates this woman from other women, is gender at birth, why should it matter? She's got all the parts, perhaps the only thing not working is a womb.
Effectively the only thing that separates you and her is a thought pattern in your mind of no real consequence. That is weird :).

edit : By the way, I actually know a few too, just the other way around.

If you don't want to patron the magazine, it's your choice. That's a reasonable way to express your viewpoint. But US society is not properly meant to have businesses exist merely to serve their markets. The culture and values of an organization matter, for better or for worse, and I don't have a problem with any business communicating those values. Her inclusion was definitely for such a statement, in particular because of the violence against trans people in Brazil.

I actually do have a problem with one business sector operating that way: healthcare. But basically I'm advocating for a public health system. In principle, we ought to take a firm stance as a society that healthcare is either a basic right or it is a product on the market. Our kludge of systems, regulation, and EMTALA make it nowhere close to either, and the end result is large disparity and inefficiency. Obviously, I'm in the camp of a public health system. In such, the goal (unreachable, but should be principle in target) is a system which provides the same completely independent of the consumer, including those who might be seen as having detestable moral character.

Meh, definite lack of boobage and assage, which you’d think were requisite for a swimsuit issue. But s/he ain’t butt ugly either. I just think s/he’d be better suited to Paris fashion runway modeling vs. swimsuit modeling.
Yeah its kind of a weird shift considering their preferred models look more like Kate Upton and Kathy Ireland.
Victorias Secret I can understand cuz they tend to prefer the exotic european look. (AKA starving zombies)

I've long been searching for a way to describe those strangely unique models from VS every time I bump into them in the media but now, thanks to you, my search is finally over. :)

Her genetic markers are still male. Perhaps that is what you meant, but I dont consider "gender" to be the genetic make up. Otherwise you could not have "transgender" people.

The swimsuit edition is there to sell during the slow months and they toss some eye candy for people who read the magazine.
You had to be told it's a male and now you are annoyed after the fact.

It's like enjoying a burger and praising how good it was, having someone tell you its a veggie burger and then you go around complaining how horrible it was and its ridiculous that people sell veggie burgers.

As far as terms go... Gender might be "made up" social crap, but Sex is not. And that aspect, from birth, can never be changed.

It will always matter except for those who are Bi.

But she's a woman. Gender and genitalia aren't inherently linked even if someone hasn't transitioned yet.

This thread has made me shake my head a few times. For a community that's largely supposed to be forward-thinking, there are a bunch who don't feel that open-mindedness and empathy should extend to transgender people. You don't have to like how the model looks, and you can certainly wonder if SI is treating her as a token offering, but can we at least acknowledge her gender and treat her with some respect?

Most of us are entirely open to trans people doing as they please in life. Just like were fine with gays/lesbians marrying.

But if someone is a straight person that is attracted to women, don't be surprised if folks are annoyed that they ruin their magazine because it doesn't have what they expected.

Personally, I don't give a shit. I don't read boring ad-filled magazines anyhow - and seeing women in lingerie/swimsuits is everywhere these days.

But the point being is - when you search your pornhub for straight porn (or lesbian, or bi, or bdsm - or whatever it is you prefer), and out pops a trans dick mid-way through.... that isn't what you ordered lol. Same if it started doing scat-porn in the middle of it. That's not what you wanted. It's not like were saying trans people aren't entitled to their pornhub videos - because I'm sure there are fucktons that find that attractive - and thats absolutely fine.

If this person showed any interest in you at all, how many beers until you responded? ;)

How many beers until a person can no longer consent?
Interesting that you would use lack of consent as platform.

The narrative you used would be parallel to telling a Gay male to just get drunk so their orientation can be violated by hooking them up with a woman.
I hope you can see just how wrong, and criminal, that line of thought is.

Try everything once.
Except incest and line dancing.

Of course he doesn't - that would be thinking non-partisan. Of course you make special exceptions for people based on things like sex, sexual attraction, skin color, etc. Nothing wrong with that ;)

WHOOSH. I hope YOU can see what a petty little asshole you're being. You seem really challenged by the new order of things, and are trying to retreat behind BULLSHIT misinterpretations of what I posted.

Here's a good rule of thumb for you . . . whenever someonesmind1 posts in support of you, you can know just how reactionary and full of smegma you and your thoughts on the matter are.

BOO! There's a WOMAN behind you. Yeah, sport, a Woman, no matter how much YOU want to deny HER her womanhood.

Unless you do a blinded DNA test, which would indicate a male.
