<< On the other hand, no one can argue with Kamian, since he refuses to listen to waht anyone says. Muscle cars are godlike in his mind. Me, i prefer to be able to turn my car when driving, and i like technology, which really knocks muslce cars out of my dream vehicles. >>

if you want to discuss one or the other thats great I like "roadsters" just as much as anyone but there is a MAJOR difference between a muscle car and a "roadster" comparing the 2 is like comparing oranges to apples just isn't possible to compare the 2

<< power to weight ratio, etc. >>

just for your info muscle cars on 1/4 strips heavily take this into account

kamiam has to be one of the most ignorant ppl i've ever seen post on anandtech...

he talks about how great muscle cars are and when ppl point out faster imports he makes nothing but excuses (waaaah! they use turbos)... when they say the imports handle better he whines (waaaah! muscle cars weigh a lot)...

get over it: your 70's muscle cars may have been great 30 years ago but today's cars, especially imports, are not only faster but offer much more in terms of handling, technology, luxury, etc...

If you wanna talk "dollar for dollar", a 90-96 Nissan 300ZX turbo costs anywhere from $10k up and with <$1500 of mods will push 400HP, 360ftlbs, and run in the low 13s while also keeping incredible handling... oh yeah - they weigh 3500lbs...

listen you IDIOT if you put those same goodies on a muscle car it will go faster just like your little riceburner, and even w/ all those little goodies they still won't beat a muscle car in the 1/4 mi race. face facts

yeah and in 1969 you could buy a hemi dart for $4000 and do hi 10's low 11's your little RICEBURNER still won't touch it even w/ $3000 worth of mods stick that in your crack pipe and smoke it

<< Right, but what I am saying is that it is easier to make a skyline go that fast, when compared to most cars. >>

How so? I think just about any Turbo engine is relatively easy to get more power out of.

Kamiam:

<< yeah and in 1969 >>

Umm, once again - you're bringing up things that make no point. It's not '69 my friend - so why bother bringing up the price from 30 years ago??? 😕 Also, arent Hemi Darts incredibly rare? Good luck finding one.

I even found a writeup on it:
"The car is one of only ~70 Hemi Dodge Darts ever built. These cars were made for the sole purpose of drag racing in Super Stock Class and were not intended for street use. This car was originally owned by Bill Flynn and campaigned primarily on the East Coast during the late 1960's. "

Not intended for street use? Hmm, that kinda fits in with the argument you were trying to make against the Supra when you said IT was inteded for racing...

<< Dollar for dollar yes, but I don't think the Supra racing the mopar in the trailer is prolly modded with the same amount of dollars. >>

The Supra in that movie got it's @ss busted by John Hennessy's TT Viper in a standing start 1-mile race.

The Supra in the movie didn't raced Hennessey's Viper. The one in the movie was only like 600 bHp. You're talking about Marko's Supra which is 900 bHp. I'm not sure what was the outcome on that race.

Stop making up stories.

hahahaa...no it didnt. there is suppose to be a 1 mile race but its not even going to be that supra racing. Yeah, get a clue.

Guys, this is a freaking movie! This is about as accurate to street racing as the movie "Hackers" is to real hacking... Get a clue guys...

kamiam I think you honestly need to sit down and slap yourself on the back of your head for being so ignorant. People bring up valid points, and you dismiss them saying "But in 69 when my mother f!cked my brother" and so on. Do you even REALIZE how bad some imports could RAPE an old musclecar, on the SAME TRACK with the SAME GAS? No, probably not. Because "Well, if your car is turbo'ed mine should be too". God, you're the kid at the track that never races because "Wait till I get my slicks" or "Wait till I get the blower".

Click Here for some of the old muscle car times. Most of the times are 14-15 seconds, which in no WAY will rape EVERY riced out car. I'm sorry, your ignorance has gone far enough (And don't go saying, well the Yenko can do it) and has become sheer stupidity.

In fact, I think a 3000GT VR4 would beat almost any car on the list, stock for stock.

Umm, you need to get a clue, because the race was done with over a month ago. The TT Viper came in second - behind one Supra, and ahead of another...

hahahaah Hennessey's 1000 horsepower Viper lost?!?!?

was the race close?

TrevorK reminded me of a good 4banger vs. Muscle Car article, you can check it here. Technology can do wonders for a 2.2 4 Cylindar engine 🙂

dafatha, it was a 800HP Viper, and the Supra was 900 (rear wheel HP). I forget how close it was, but that extra 100HP sure helped that Supra out 🙂

hehe, i remember the thread too, where everyone thought the viper would waste the supra...hehe, me included 😉

but yah, that's impressive

The white supra in the video was Marko's supra. He has NOT raced Hennessy's Viper as of yet. The other two Supra's that raced Hennessy belonged to other people. And he couldn't even beat those supra's................

oh, i wasnt aware that the movie producers decided to risk wrecking the car they're selling as a collectors item to do somethig as gruesome as a standing mile....yeah...get a clue

jaybert - what the hell are you talking about? Pull your head out of your ass next time you post in this thread!!

uh oh, did i not pass your high standards? Whose the one who thinks Hessenny raced his viper up against Marko's supra which hasn't even happened?

Dear Moron,

Those same "goodies" would just be an intake/exhaust/ECU... And the 1/4 mile times you're talking about are for low-production drag-intended models, not cars like the supra and ZX that sold in the thousands...

If you look at this Mopar fan link: 50 fastest muscle cars you will see that the 300ZX as i mentioned would fall #3 on the list in the 1/4 mile, tied with the 70 Hemi Cuda.

The fastest on the list is 12.2 ('66 Cobra) so unless your definition of muscle car was a Hemi Dart that's been heavily modified, many imports would whip the cars on that list.

Not to mention that most of the "10's and 11's" cars you speak of only got that fast via engine swaps and other "goodies"... Just like those civic guys dropping in integra engines and adding turbos...

BTW, what cost $4000 in 1969 would cost $19125.72 in 2000, it's called inflation my grade-school-educated friend...

Genocide
your "facts" are flawed... there were 500 made...and yes they weren't "intended" for the street...however back then you could go to your dodge dealer and get one for between $4000 and $4500 the only reason dodge sent 500 to dealers was to pass a regulation that the racing authorities had for the "stock" class of racing just as they did w/ the superbirds and the daytona 500's both of which you could purchase thru a dodge dealer...and btw the hemi dart is indeed rare my father sold his in85 for $15K that guy turned around and doubled his money within a few months...now their worth $80K- $100K I still cuss my old man out about that one... he "promised" me he wouldn't sell it

EDIT: just checked the facts... there were only 50 hemi darts made and sold thru dealers and then only in '69... the 500 were the superbirds and daytona 500's just so these cars would pass the nascar rules for "stock" car races
