NOTE: To readers of this thread, please check the most recent posts for the current deals.

In my experience shopping for value in the entry level category of graphics can sometimes be a frustrating experience.

Therefore I thought I would start this thread so we can have a place to list any hot deals we find for entry level video cards ($50 and under, after rebate) EDIT: 4/6/2015: I decided this thread should no longer have the $50 price limit. Feel free to post whatever hot deal you consider to be an entry level video card.

With that mentioned, here is the first deal:

PowerColor Go! Green AX5450 1GBK3-SH (HD5450 1GB 64 bit DDR3) for $9.99 After rebate, free shipping:

Keep in mind it is just a very basic card with only 80 stream processors, but will work nicely as a very low cost replacement for older systems that either don't have integrated graphics or have extremely weak integrated graphics.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rebbr=1&cm_sp=

EDIT: Today (10/1/2015) I noticed the cooler in the above Newegg listing has changed...

....from this smaller one:

....to this bigger one:

P.S. Regarding Power Color rebates, be very careful how the form is filled out. They have some very detailed instructions that need to be followed (example: do not mistakenly use Newegg's "Order details" as the invoice) , but so far my experience with the single rebate I have filed has been good. It only took me about 5 1/2 weeks to receive my rebate and it was in the form of an actual check rather than a reward card. (EDIT: I just filled out a new Power color rebate yesterday (9/22/2015). They are now using 4myrebate, so same procedure as most other rebates......but now we get a reward card instead of a rebate check)

I was looking at a fanless low-profile ready Zotac GT630 the other day at Newegg. It was $34.99 at the time.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500346

Edit: Decided to order. Needed some low-power yet CUDA-capable video cards. No gaming.

Edit: According to this, the card is rated at 25W:
http://www.dabs.com/products/zotac-...express-2-0x16-hdmi-zone-edition-lp-9KQ3.html

Edit: GPU-Z is reporting 400Mhz memory. Meaning, DDR3-800. According to Zotac's site, the card has DDR3-1600. I'm a little concerned.
http://www.zotac.com/products/graph...er/DESC/amount/10/section/specifications.html

I had thought it was clocked down, due to low memory controller load (0-20%) on PrimeGrid PPS cuda WUs. But my other Q9300 @ 3.0 w/GT630, is running at 100% memory controller load, and 97% GPU load, and GPU-Z is still reporting 400Mhz for the memory clock.

So this batch of cards, may have DDR3-800 memory on it. Can you get much cheaper? I'm a little upset, Zotac and Newegg's site both claim DDR3-1600. Is it possible, that it's not running at 3D clocks? Is there some way to boost clocks? I think that the cards come with overclocking software, I'll have to try installing it, I guess.

Edit: Now $59.99 and $3.99 shipping.

Don't forget the software side, some of the cheap cards only work on older OS and/or don't work on newer DX whatever it is, 11 I think is current. Cheap cards may also have lousy support so that they won't actually work as claimed or have issues with motherboards etc.

Cheap always means extra checking before you buy.

Given the capabilities of a modern IGP, the lowest bar for a dedicated video card should probably be a GTX 750 or a R7 260X. Anything less is, well, useless.

Not all modern processors come with a iGPU.

Some examples would be Intel LGA 2011-3, AMD AM3+, the AMD FM2/FM2+ Athlon x4's as well as the upcoming socket AM1 Athlon x4's (the 550 and 530). There are also some LGA 1150 Xeons that don't have iGPU.

I would put the bar one generation lower, as many times the cheap cards are to update older systems, not build new ones.

PNY GTX650 1GB GDDR5 card at BestBuy.com on clearance for $63.99 (reg $129.99).

384 stream processors, probably the same actual chip as the Zotac card I posted for $34.99, only this one is clocked higher, has higher memory bandwidth, has a heatsink and fan, and might actually be good for playing some older games.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-gefo...urceId=1394989

At $63.99 that's REALLY cheap. It's about the same speed as a 750. Really good card if you don't play BF4 or something ridiculous demanding.

Occasionally there are deals on R9 270's that get them near the $100 mark (newegg shellshocker a few weeks ago)

...but I think we should all wait to see what AMD does to respond to Maxwell. With 750Ti's running near $100 and effectively making the R9 270's irrelevant, and the 980's and 970's owning the $300+ market, AMD no doubt has some huge price cuts in store at the high and low end.

650 GTX is about as fast as a HD7750 GDDR5.

750 GTX (512 Maxwell CUDA cores with 128 bit GDDR5) is much faster than 650 GTX (384 Kepler CUDA cores with 128 bit GDDR5)

P.S. There is a lower cost version of Kepler with 384 CUDA cores that slots in between the 128 GDDR5 version Larry listed a couple posts ago and the one he listed earlier in the thread (with 64 bit DDR3 1600). The GT640 (384 Kepler CUDA cores) version I am thinking of comes with 64 bit GDDR5 and is also branded as one of the GT730 variants. Two weeks ago a low profile MSI version of it was running $39.99 after rebate, free shipping at Newegg.

Am I correct in assuming that there is very little difference in performance between a 384 core GT630 and a 384 core GTX650, for compute purposes? I mean, if I'm not slinging textures around, memory bandwidth shouldn't matter too much, right?

Hoping I made the right decision to get the cheaper card.

Wondering if I should get a few more to fill out my quad-GPU cruncher, and get back into F@H or PrimeGrid? After all, winter is coming up, got to heat the apt somehow. :)

Over the $50 price, but looks like a good card. $65 plus shipping
GIGABYTE GV-N730-2GI GeForce GT 730 2GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125675
I'd like to get a $100+ Maxwell based card, but I don't really need one. Should run on a HP with an oddball 320Watt power supply.

That GT730 card is based on GF108 (Fermi) and previously branded as GT430/GT440 and also as a GT630 variant (GT630 also has some variants based on Kepler).

Hopefully some good deals pop up for these GF108s with the price being well below $50.

Refurbished HD7730 DDR3 for $34.99 free shipping:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...03&ignorebbr=1

(384 GCN stream processors @ 800 Mhz, 128 bit DDR3 @ DDR3 1600)

14-131-603-TS

This card sits in between a R7 240 DDR3 and R7 250 DDR3.

The two major things of note are 1.) It's not new and 2.) Memory speed is slightly slower at DDR3 1600 compared to the spec of DDR3 1800 I normally see for the R7 DDR3 cards.

I have the EVGA 750Ti Superclocked (single fan, no ATX power connector model) and it's reasonably fast as is, and very quiet. It replaced a 560Ti that failed and it's undoubtedly faster in BF4 at medium detail 1920x1080. It hovers right around 72FPS in Metro and 65FPS in Wave Breaker; I keep VSYNC on to cap it at 60FPS anyway.

Totally adequate card, probably the best option for a mini-ITX system (like mine, where the 560Ti barely fit.)

You can even run the 750's on a PicoPSU (160-watt model or better) as long as your CPU has a <65-watt TDP and a single SSD, which is just amazing when you think about it for a gaming system...
