I actually took the WMP challenge and powered up one then the other on the same song. Back and forth and my Winamp 2.9 with Enhancer v0.17 blows away WMP for mp3's anyway. WMP's playback was muddy and there wasn't anything I could do in the adjustments to add clarity/crispness back to the song (made it sound like a worn-out cassette).

that's pretty bad .. considering it's about 300 KB install. You should look through your preferences and perhaps tune down the priority.

If Winamp was never purchased by AOL, then ShoutCast would have never become what it is today. While I have a feeling that the Nullsoft guys were already working on an early version of it at the time, AOL has provided the monetary support(so you know, the guys can eat), but it also provides a large amount of the bandwidth the top ShoutCast stations use. A large(stable) bandwidth source was key to ShoutCast taking off.
Oh, and for those of you still using old versions of Winamp, there are known security vulnerabilities in versions less than 2.81(including an ID3 tag overflow, I believe. MP3s that execute programs: just what the RIAA ordered). It's highly reccomended you upgrade.

That's what inventor/author Raymond Kurzweil did - He's design some breakthrough tech, like text-to-speech translators for the blind, or keyboard synthesizers, then he'd sell it to fund his life and research his next big thing. Now the guy's freaking loaded and could rest on his laurels for another 200 years if he wanted to.
I would not only take every penny I could milk them for....I would file a lawsuit against them for corrupting me with so much money and make them pay for the emotional damages...then I would make false claims against them that they threatened me and pressured me to sell out and take back winamp...to sell to some other luser company for another 75 million! muahahaha..
oh come on...you'd all do the same if you thought you could pull it off.
whoa first time i hear someone praise a microsoft product...but i'll have to disagree with you, winamp is a whole lot better for my purposes.

Tommy Vercetti...have you even ever used winamp 2.x? Clearly you havent...totally bloated? Compared to what? Certainly not WMP. Winamp 2.x is much, much less bloated than WMP. Also, I find it odd that you choose your MP3 player by looks...I certainly don't look at my MP3 program all day (maybe visualizations, but otherwise, I have other apps up, over winamp)
$75million would buy you a lot of groceries, bills, rent, and computer time for your own projects.
Because buying Winamp allowed AOL to use it's decoding engine in their AOL Media Player. So in that respect, it's value is millions of people * $25/mo.
