Also, ps3 is coming with usb 2.0, blue tooth, etc, etc. So plugging in a flippin mouse and keyboard should be no big hassle if thoose 2 small accessories is whats keeping people from not buying a console. This may actually be the first time were the technology in consoles may surpass that of the standard pc(im talking about blue tooth connectivity and blue ray here) The ps3 plans to be a gaming pc with the latest technology...just without all the other crap we use our pc's for.

-also, i dont see why people are listing upgrading as a GOOD THING...i love tinkering with hardware...but i dont like SPENDING THE MONEY FOR IT every year or so just to play the good games on a pc.

Finally someone with some common sense. PS3 will be ~$400 and come with a blue-ray HD DVD player, and a NVIDIA card twice as powerful as Nvidia's top card now. How much do you think an upgrade to YOUR PC will COST to match this?

Anyway like some have said give PC's a couple years and they will pass Xbox 360 and PS3 up no problem yet again(gfx wise and hardware). Even now Xbox 360 doesn't look any better(if not worse in some games).

Also reason we ain't seen alot of sports, adventure, ect is because they don't do so well on the PC and probably never did. MMORPG's,FPS'ers, some racing and a couple others will live for a long long time if not forever because theres millions playing and I think will continue to play.

A PC costs about $2000+ right now to match a $400 Xbox. And a $300 PC can do all office needs just fine. So $700 for a pure gaming box and the reg office PC. hmm, how many games could $1300 buy!

Strategy may stay, as I stated earlier, I'll say there might be an FPS market. But everything else is gone. No need to buy a $3000+PC for a few games. How many games can you buy with a $400 Xbox to hit $3000. Think about it!

Furniture is a silly thing to bring into this arguement but i do agree. Also, kbs for gaming will soon be obsolete(analog/heat sensing/gyration) controls will soon be on the way and i think will soon replace kbs in the next 5+ years.

Pc will catch up in terms of graphics, but food for thought: the ps2 has been out for 5+ years now and look at the graphics it can produce here and that looks just as good as any pc game that just came out. So it may be another 5-6 years before the pc can catch up with 360/ps3.

Funny thing is that the games that really sell and keep pc gaming alive are the ones that require the least ammount of hardware upgrades(the sims, warcraft/starcraft, mmorpgs, and rts)

I like this discussion...to me it it all comes down to this: Video card: $300 Console: $399(not to mention the consoles will have the latest in technology, while the video card is just one of the upgrades required)

This guy knows what he's talking about.

I totally disagree with the orignal topic starter. Like many have said before...this idea has been stated EVERYTIME a new console comes out. Oh man..it looks so great...its gonna destroy PC gaming!

The simple answer is no..its not. One thing I would like to point out is that Microsoft who is MAKING the xbox360 obviously..has come out and said that they want to make their new OS a very friendly gaming OS..and bring back gaming to the PC. WHY would they come out and say this if they though it was going to die..and why would they do this if they thought no one was going to play on the PC anymore. MS isnt stupid..they see that the PC is still there.

Another point is the FPS and RTS. Both of these game types NEED a mouse and keyboard. I would really love is PS3 supported these..if they did i would deff buy a ps3 instead of an xbox just on that fact alone. Playing RTS with a gamepad is stupid..and playing an FPS one is also quite lame...its simply not as fun and makes it a hell of a lot less competative.

MMORPG....PC rules the market...

MoDs. PC lets games have mods..without mods we wouldnt have CS and DoD and many other great games. you can mod a game for the xbox or ps...people who love mods simply have to play on the PC.

For me, its simply the fact that I love the PC. I love my keyboard and mouse. I have grown up with both the console and the PC and while my console sits on the ground unplayed for many days my PC is always being used, and its always used to play games when i get free time. To me, most hardcore gamers like the PC as well. People who love sport games and racing games and dont mind playing the same games over and over love the consoles...but people that love new games..getting the same few great games that come out on console since they will be ported, love free online play pick the pc.

And lastly the statement that the PC cant comptete with the console graphics...is just absurd. The PS2 doesnt even come close to the power a current PC can put out. Just look at doom3 on the xbox and then play it on a good PC...you will see the diffrence. Of course at first the xbox360 mgiht be a leg up on the PC, but soon a new graphics card will come out that will trump it and..bam...pc owns once again.

How many of those games are any good? There are probably about five categories of modern console games. First, there's your generic sports games. Second, there's racing games. Third, there's uninspired first person shooters. Fourth, there's fighting games. Lastly, there's ports that the console gets from the PC. I'd rather pay a bit extra for a lot of great games than save money on something I'm not going to use.

The PC game market may have a few MMORPG, but other than that its over. The only thing a PC is useful for now is Office work and maybe some TV. Of course the TV part will be obsolete once HD's come down in price.

Wow you have got to be kidding me. Not only is it complete hear-say that console players are better than pc gamers it is absolutly false. There is a reason million dollar tournys are from PC NOT consoles. And the xbox live community doesn't compete with IRC/forums/xfire where the TRUE gamer community is. I'm sorry but everything you are saying to wrong.

You are clearly making false claims all over the place. The xbox DOES NOT have hardware "far ahead of PC hardware currently available". That is completely false. Also, lets say an xbox costs $300; then you need to buy controllers/games/misc equipment. That totals out to be roughly $450+ Thats almost what you can buy a PC capable of running games at the same framerate/resolution as the xbox PLUS it can do way more things.

Also that fact that you claim you are winning the battle is simply because you are trying to tell yourself that you are right when you are being shot down.

If you really think every PC gamer spends Alienware-esque prices on their upgrades, you're delusional.

Edit: By the way, I wouldn't expect you to know a thing about programming, so I'll enlighten you. If you forced everyone to be using the same hardware (like consoles).. then, my friend, you would truly see how much more powerful a pc is then your $400 heating element on the floor next to you.

Your numbers are WAY off and you obviously have no idea that you could easily build a computer for around $500 that could play ALL of todays games at xbox quality or better (I know because I did).

If that happens, then it's the death of several game genres as well, RTSs and real RPGs to name 2.

The Xbox360 will be passed graphically by the PC in less than 6 months. PS3 is a long way off from release.

Anyway, no point in arguing with the OP who is out trolling.

Well its not the end of PC gaming. I just decided not to get a 360 because I didnt see any graphical or performance increase over my current PC. I dont have to pay for xbox life or pay 60 bucks for games.

Why do people keep making these threads? Are they still angry they couldn't afford that new 486 to play doom back in 1993 or something? They seem to have some sort of grudge against PC gaming. You don't want to play PC games? Great! Then don't! We don't give a sh|t. This is like me showing up on a basketball forum and saying football rules and basketball sucks. Who gives crap. You're just trolling.

PCs are not going anywhere, in fact, they are becoming more popular. Therefore, PC gaming is not going anywhere. I'd expect the PC and console to merge before I'd expect any one side to disappear. They both have their places in the market. But with the xbox in particular we keep seeing it adding more features of the PC. If it keeps that up, then its going to become a PC.

i doubt any consoles can make a true FPS...

not so long as they use controllers, at which point they will become cheap PC's with a mouse/keyboard :D

*sigh* I can believe I am going to fuel this fire....

Call me when your beautiful console can play more then 16 players online.

Hell the new xbox 360 Call of Duty 2 and Quake 4 can only do 8, ya E-I-G-H-T, online players. PC gaming is dead thats funny...

So even IF you have support for a Keyboard and mouse on your console how much fun can playing with eight people online be!?
