The DMV is boring and slow.

Theres a dude here. Wants me to vote in Virginia primaries.
Unless Hannah Montana is running I will probably turn him down.

Yup, DMV is the worst. Last Friday, being the nice friend that I am, I let my buddy borrow my smaller motorcycle to take his riding exam. He ended up wanting to go at noon. So we get there, stand in line for an hour and a half, and they reject him because he didn't bring proof of address. I was more pissed at him than the DMV though for not showing up prepared. We head back to his house, come back, get a NEW number and stand in line again.

We were there for 4 hours in total. I didn't expect to be there that long, so I showed up in full leathers since I live 30 minutes away and wanted to ride my bike that day. I was sweating my balls off and he didn't even buy me a beer afterwards.

I forgot, is this a "DMV sucks" thread or an "I need new friends" thread?

Whats that? Government is incompetent at doing even the most simple minded tasks of issuing identification? Say it isn't so!

And people wonder why conservatives don't trust government to fulfill things in life. Gee I wonder why?

The "should have brought your own beer" thread because you know our friends suck.😉

Ours is pretty damned efficient. The last 2 trips were less than 10 min.
Same. Of course, I live in a small town and if there is a line, it's usually maybe one person.

DMV should serve beer and food and have TV's going. I should be able to watch sports and munch a hot dog and have a beer while I wait in line.

I recently had to register that I bought a car from out of state. I tried to schedule an appointment at the DMV and was told the earliest opening was FIVE weeks away. I was told to go to the DMV at the ass crack of dawn and wait in line if I wanted it done sooner. I ended up going to a private business that does certain DMV transactions for a fee to get my registration done. It was worth the extra $25 not to have to visit the DMV.

Stupid statement.

What's that? Private industry can fail at doing many things in the real world? Say it ain't so! I should not trust private industry fulfill or to do anything ever again anywhere.

Also a stupid statement.

That's a bit of a wierd statement. I'd guess that you'd say that the UK was more of a big government nanny state than the us?

Well I have no idea what this DMV thing you have does, we don't have something that does that.

Not getting between to 2 lovers but if my private company fails, it's gone. My govt fails....v2.0. And, no, I'm not anti govt. Just anti waste.

Being boring is not a failure, it's just a characteristic of waiting.

If you want to claim the DMV is inefficient then we'd have to figure that out and by how much. And then figure out if private industry could provide the same service to society for less while being the same respected product. And if a private company failed in that capacity, it's not just gone, it's fucking up a fundamental part of how the society functions - cars and driving and the most accepted and revered identification for all citizens.

At least around here in Northern NJ the DMV has become a pretty decent place to go compared to 25 years ago. The last bunch of times I've been to DMV it took me 30 minutes or at various locations in Northern NJ to get a new license, transfer titles, renew registration. I just avoid going at the very end or very beginning of the month. Try not to go the end of the month or first few days of the new month IMO. I see a lot of people online posting that their DMV experiences have gotten better for the most part. YMMV

The DMV is actually pretty fast around here the times I've been. My biggest complaint is that they now have touch screen check kiosks that do numbers messaged to your cell phone and the process completely confuses the elderly and recent immigrants
