Red Orchestra?

I tried it and it's just too much on the ArmA side of things, also, are there even any large maps? I'm talking FuShe Pass large here.

Although...I just remembered that RO2 has mod tools...whatever happened with those mods that were being planned? Any of them put in large maps with aircraft?

If RO2 doesn't fit your tastes, try the original RO1 with the Darkest Hour mod. It's a lot different. The maps are much larger too.

The real problem is, as technology has gotten better, graphics have gotten better. As graphics have gotten better art teams have gone from few, to being bigger than the size of an entire AAA game studio was less than a decade ago.

To make expansive worlds in cutting edge 3D is very costly. But most AAA developers focus on graphics and the game play, because customers want cutting edge graphics. Well they want both cutting edge graphics and innovative gameply, but rarely do they ever get it these days. Its really one or the other because both cutting edge 3D, plus expansive world, plus innovative gameplay = really really expensive.

And by cutting edge I dont mean bleeding edge. AAA games on the 360 and PS3 take a shit ton of artists and man hours to create the artwork and that all equals $$$.

Better graphics = more artists = more and more money and its only going to get worse.

Raph Koster (the guy who designed quite a few mmos like Star Wars Galaxies) said in an interview late last year that the modern day game is becoming too expensive to create. In order to keep up with today's gaming standards, they have to keep up with the technology and that seems to be a bit expensive. Which then means only the bigger companies can produce the AAA titles that we like and independent developers are dying out because they can't afford the technology that would allow their game ideas to come to life..

And those who can afford to build such games tend to play it safe with the design because failure would result in a lot of money being lost. Something your investors won't take to lightly.

You could ironically say that Skyrim is one of those cases where it clearly paid out for bethsoft.

I wouldnt really say Skyrim has innovative gameplay. Though it does have great graphics(with the high res texture pack) and it is very expansive.

But if you play one Bethesda game, you played them all in terms of game play. And like always their combat system sucks/is clunky

So stop buying mainstream games from major publishers. Play indie games instead. You'll save money, and you'll also have something different to play other than "Generic Military Shooter #17".

Also sober up a little.

True. Indie games it's where it's at...or hat?...or AT-AT???!??!!

In other words, the gaming industry has become exactly like the movie and music industries.

Yup, I have been saying this for years. They are marketing and building game franchise sequels like they do movies.
