Have you heard of this film? If so what did you think?

If you have not heard of this film I'd recommend you to see it as I found it interesting and different to the films you can see.

Also if anyone has other links to a more fuller explanation to why the Cube is doing there and how they got to the Cube and etc as I'd like to know. I have been searching and didn't find much, and the movie website sucks.

Thanks.

I think there was a thread about this when they aired Cube 2. If I'm thinking of the right movie. I think some people got pretty into it.

The cube is there for jobs, the people were there because you have to use the cube.

And the sequel is called "Cube 2: Hypercube". The sequel's ok, but lacks the bite of the first movie.

What is there to know other than what is explicitly stated in the movie? It's one big headless blunder. Maybe at some point it had a purpose, but whatever purpose it might have had was lost in the shuffle.

The cube shell designer guy more or less says that in the movie. I havn't seen it in a while so I might be a little off.

Yeah but I thought maybe there was a more fuller story of it somewhere or someone knew of it.

The idea of it being just a big blunder by someone or thing was a bit iffy to me.

Why not? NASA designed the ISS to keep the shuttle flying.

Are you kidding? The sequel blows. They remove all the mystery, uncertainity, and puzzles from the original. They reduce the the whole thing to a fvcking meat grinder! :| It exists solely to kill off the cast, which exists solely to enlighten us as to why the Cube exists.

If you really want answers, Koing, you should just rent the sequel. Though I personally found it quite unsatisifying. I feel that movies like Cube do better when there is a strong element of uncertainity as it lets your imagination fill in all the juicy details.

It was a great movie. It really shows what you can do with a low budget and a few good writers. The second one blew ass though. It was almost a direct copy, with crappier acting, some crappy physics, and no mystery at the end.

They are making a 3rd one. I think it's supposed to be a prequel to the first one IIRC.

And the cube was just a spontaneous thing I think. Some how it started, and people just continued. Money kept coming so they kept working. It's an interesting idea for sure :)

That's pretty much the crux of the movie, though. There is no evil conspiracy that devised the Cube. It was a huge contract with many, many subcontracts that got out of control and lost all meaning. Anyone who knew what it was supposed to be was reassigned, fired or laid off. The prople that designed each component had no idea what the whole of the project was supposed to do, and they never asked. Maybe it was supposed to be a prison, maybe a museum, maybe a military device. No one knows anymore.

And as Joeyman mentions, Worth says that the only reason the people were put there is to justify the project. It was a waste if it wasn't used.

Fun fact - the characters are all named after prisons:
Levin and Worth (Fort Levinworth, TX)
Kazan (Russia)
Holloway (England)
Rennes (France)
Quentin (San Quentin, CA)

Cube was a good movie. The only problem was the black cop guy was totally irrational to the point that it kind of took away from the movie.

The sequel wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as good since it didn't have all the boobytrapped rooms like the first one. I guess it had some, but not the kind of traps in the first one.

Actually, you're wrong. The sequel explains why it's there, and it wasn't Worth who was right, though another one of the people in there was.

Hey nice facts!

Glad many of you guys liked it as I did.

I'll go and rent the sequel soon even though it is probably not as good but I will go see it anyway.

I'm sure you are right, but that's how it stands in Cube. Honestly, I'm not interested in seeing Hypercube because I can't imagine it doing anything but detracting from the paranoia of the original....and the responses I've read in this thread only further reinforce that notion.

Ah, okay! Excellent choices all around my man!

I wish the backers of the sequel had agreed with that choice, as it was the best one to go with.

I saw the second one and thought it was lame compared to the original :(

It's not about the "artistic" notion of the movie... screw that. It's all about the Benjamins and apparently since Cube made some dough, they wanted to increase their dough^3 (Cubed, get it?? hahahahm I think I should get the "jokester apprentice" status upgrade like Brutuskend)
