Having no plan for an emergency is the most egregious fault a leader can put forth.

Well put . . where in the puzzle does that fit ?

In the public admission of a Democratic Senator from La. that there was no evacuation plan, although they knew of the problem for the last thirty years. How else do myyou cut that?

Interesting little tidbit from this afternoons Fox. Intervgiewing a citizen in New Orleans waiting for the chopper. Citizen says "This city is run by a bunch of idiots!" A quick pan to the reporter who says "He said: This thing is being run by a bunch of idiots!" A lot of difference in the statements. I wonder just what they are up to? Trying to totally hide ALL mismanagement? This was FOX, remember?

Heard it here first folks.

According to Condor Fox News has now defected to the liberal side!

You must have a pretty good view from that roost eh?

You bet!

I have a friend that works these kinda disasters and the she tells that the states know it will be at least 72 hours before federal help will show up. The states know they must havea plan to manage this period of time before the fed aid arrives.

Yawn. Don't suppose you can show us where you showed support for the victims, can you? If you can, perhaps you can make the list as well. All I remember is lots of bashing.

Sorry. We'll have to agree to disagree. I find letting thousands of people die while you pose for photo ops and revel in red tape far, far more egregious. This isn't some infantile partisan game. Those were real human beings who died -- and continue to die -- because their alleged "leaders" at all levels, local, state, and federal failed them.
He did do that -- as victims were being removed to safety by chopper behind him.

Like it or not, the federal response has been the only effective response. As I have stated, it took five days for the feds to tool up after Camille.
When faced with the greatest threat to American lives in perhaps 60 years, and given the hundreds of billions of dollars we pay the Pentagon, that simply isn't good enough. If the federal government is truly incapable of responding more quickly than this, then we are not getting our money's worth. We need to clean house from the top down, until we reach people who still understand how to get things done in a crisis.

NP CaptnKirk. I am so floored by what has occurred down there I don't have the stomach to bicker with either side of the aisle. Pointing fingers is useless, raising hands and coming up with a way to handle this better the next time one rolls though is more important than fighting about what could have beens. I have stayed out of all but one of the NO threads, save the one where TLC said that most made the stupid decision to remain. As if most the people we see suffering on the streets had the means to evacuate.

Yeah..so it's the locals fault for not having a plan on what to do with 150,000 people in a worst case scenario. Now what took the Fed's so damn long to react AFTER THE FACT??

Seem they didn't have a plan either, but it was THAT lack of planning that caused so much suffering. Some reality you live in, let them suffer and die.

Condors are an endagered speices, maybe your reality isn't going to last much longer.

I showed support for the victims with my pocketbook. That's where it counts.

Now do you actually want to dismiss anything I said in my reply, or are you going to make another diversionary pass? The OP was nothing more than a pathetic troll, and you damn well know it.

It's unfortunate and ironic that this thread has generated such partisan vitriol.

I think this tragedy has indeed revealed a lot about people's character, including but obviously not limited to the members of this board.

We've had at least 3 members banned today, two of whom were permabanned for making outrageous racist statements, and the third of whom was, ironically enough, vacationed for trolling about how racist the US is.

I had hoped, I guess in vain, that this tragedy would unite people. We've seen acts of personal courage and generosity of spirit close to the scene of the disaster that literally make tears well up in my eyes. You'd think, and I'd hope, that such a terrible tragedy would help people see the bigger picture, and see that wisdom does not favor partisan viciousness, but rather unity.

CaptKirk, I know you well enough to know your heart was in the right place. I readily acknowledge that members on both sides of the political spectrum have, in the last few days, behaved shamefully, and, in other cases, behaved in ways I find inspiring.

Can we all please try to do more of the latter and less of the former? Is the worst national disaster in history a chance to band together, or an occasion to hate your neighbor? I think many of you have lost the forest for the trees.

Puhleeze stop it with the sanctimonius tripe, Vito. You have contributed to the partisan garbage in at least one thread I can think of, fanning the flames for those who seemingly go rabid when they smell the potential of fresh republican meat. You have no room to speak and your little sermons in here do not hide that fact under scrutiny So dismount your high horse and take a seat with the rest that you've already joined, please.

What specific thread are you talking about? Why are you being so hostile and insulting - am I cramping your style?

I'm not saying people can't express their opinions; just that I don't see this as a time for partisan invective (that's the kind of stuff you just engaged in, if you're looking for an illustration).

First, last, and only post on the NO topic (at least until the crises passes).

I think most everyone on this forum has been a partisan hack of one type or another regarding this topic - some to disgusting extremes (you should know who you are, but you don't). You all should be finding ways to help. The 20 minutes I've wasted reading all the garbage posted, and the 2 minutes writing this post was 22 minutes too much.

Shame on you.

I'm going to regretfully have to side with TLC on this one, Don. While I agree with what you said in general about this event displaying many people's true character, your ideas on this thread itself are triple-A bullsh!t.

This is perhaps the first time I've actually read and been shocked by the hypocrisy of someone who should know better on the Internet. Damning those to hell whom disagree with you in partisan politics, and even worse - using one's own son, due to head back into harm's way shortly, as a prop for your invective? That's lower than pathetic. I don't even know if there's a word for that.

I'm incredibly surprised that the OP hasn't posted with some measure of regret for acting as looney as that. All I can really hope is that you, CaptnKirk, posted such an evil diatribe as you did because you're emotional about your son's impending departure. What you wrote is pretty effing inexcusable for someone who's supposed to have brains.

A handfull of individuals have chosen to do nothing except launch attack after attack on them, and to make false statements just to show the depth of their arrogance and distain for anyone wh is willing to help those in need.

You're no better than the looters and shooters that caused even more problems for the rescue effort - you're no help at all.

I. for one. have been plesantly suprised as to how some who were staunch GOP supporters in the past opened their eyes and questioned what they saw.

I'm going to post very little over the next few days, I don't want to waste my time conversing with the Klan Mentality that came out here.

My Army Seargent Son is visiting with his wife before he returns for another year
in Iraq to do his job for this country.

Even he is dismayed with the lack of urgency from the Federal Level, and he understands the scope of what happened, and knows that he may be deployed into New Orleans when he returns to Fort Hood on Monday night, to join those from his base that have already gone there.

To those of you who have been supportive of the rescue effort, and have voiced your dissapointment with Federal Assiatance - I thank you.

For those core few who call everyone who dosen't agree with then, and wish death on those who are so desparate - shame on you.
God is going to make sure that there's a special place in Hell you can call your very own.

For the most part, you have stepped forward, and tower head and shoulders above the mental midgets that plague this forum.
Some of you have (Like me) gotten a bit too passionate when trying to educate those who have chosen to remain ignorant.
That can be understood in the heat of an argument, as when the ad hominim personal attacks begin.
Most of you have proven yourselves to be gentlemen during the conversations, and have given substance to your thoughts.
Cudos to you.

Many I reserve judgement on, as they are either too recent into this side of the forum, or have shown a willingness to think and learn.

Then there's the 'Dirty Dozen' - this Forums own plague upon humanity, may God help you . . you can't help youselves, and you deserve so little from life.
