So far though he's doing just fine.

He hit a homerun with his base. But we've heard all of this before and it hasn't convinced anyone.

It's too bad the rumor about Cheney retiring and McCain stepping in weren't true. I watched John last night on Letterman - I can see why he's so damn likeable, even by Democrats. Republicans would be utterly stupid not to push for McCain in 2008.

But anyway, great speech by Bush. I'm feeling a lot better about the Republican party after this convention. 4 more years!

Yes, Clinton was impeached. 30 years ago that would have meant something, but not in today's world of sliding morals and apathy.

It would have meant something if he wasn't acquitted.

And he wouldn't have been acquitted if people actually had morals and cared about lying under oath.

And he wouldn't have been impeached it Republicans didn't control the house.

Only because the Dem's would have lied and covered for him. Claerly not because he was innocent.... right?

So you are saying they didn't want to impeach Clinton because his presidency was good for them?

Wow, you guys are incredible. Bush was in a Lose-Lose situation.

Bush makes mistakes during the speech, you rip him for being a poor orator.
Bush makes relatively few mistakes during the speech, you claim people are gullible to a good speech.

No, I'm saying people didn't care whether Clinton was impeached or not (except for the soap-opera-like drama) so long as life was still good for them.

How many people did you know that said, "I dont' care if the president is having affairs or getting a BJ in office, so long as the economy is good." ? I heard that more times than I can recall.

What happened to wanting your leader to be a role model for the country? To wanting your leader to put forth a positive image of your country to the rest of the world? What happens to a country that tells the rest of the world that it doesn't care that it's leader lies to his people?

So much you hear about pride in America and being patriotic. But if you were truly patriotic and had pride in this country, wouldn't you want your leader to set a good model for your children and the future generation?

My problem with Bush is that the only good things people ever have to say about him are that he's a straight shooter, has strong moral character, and he's a christian. I don't care about his morals, or that he's a christian, I don't care how he thinks in his private life. I just want him to do a good job...which I don't think he has done. He's straight up incompetent and lets his personal biases completely dictate his leadership. The mark of a great leader is doing what's good for this country despite what you personally think and despite your personal biases. He can't put aside his personal agendas and that makes him a really sh1tty president in my opinion.

Oh, but they did care. If I remember in exess of 60% were against impeachment.
I do agree that life was good back then.

I said so myself. I really don't care. I don't even care who my uncle is screwing, much less the president. My name is not Hillary. :D

Reality happened? :D

OMG think of the children. No I don't care. It's not like they didn't know about sex until Clinton. Teenage pregnancies went down in his 8 years, if I recall correctly. Bob Livingston, Henry Hyde, and Newt Gingrich are better role models?

Thank you for illustrating the kind of selfishness and short-sightedness that can be expected from the average American.

And Shockwave was happy.

I also think this thread needs to be renamed.... ;)

Coming from the same person who said the following:

Peaceful religion my ass. We need to KILL THEM, because they will do their absolute damnedest to kill US. And I mean ALL of them. Burn their homes, bomb their places of worship and eradicte (sic) them from this planet. The Muslim religion is the greatest threat to civilized nations today. -- Shockwave

You want some tapes of Hitler's old speeches to applaud to? Maybe you can write him in as your vote this November.
