The border fence is a go! Will Calderon request sanctions against the U.S.?

A border fence will stop illegal contraband. It will also slow down illegal immigration. With an effective border fence we would not need fights like the one in Arizona.

Now lets see how the new fence along with Mexican-Guatemalen border works out. If it is successfull in stopping illegal contraband and illegal immigration... the U.S. should send a delegation down to Mexico to see how it is done properly.

It's only racist and mean if it's done by whites or conservatives. When done by someone else it's perfectly fine.

Fortunately for them they don't have such a large border to worry about and no strong strong civil society to point out even the most minor of violation of illegals' rights.

I heard this on talk radio earlier this week. What a fucking bunch of hypocrites (Mexican government). I say build the damn thing here and tell them to STFU and GTFO.

Great, so when this is an expensive failure then we can abandon this stupid idea.

After that one is done will they put one up on their northern border? Maybe with our high unemployment we need people crossing the border looking for work.

I think we should take a clue from brave, honorable Mexico and build a great wall along our southern border to protect us from illegal Guatemalan immigrants and contraband.

I agree building a fence is retarded. I can't remember what show it was, but they hired some illegals to build a wall and when they were done told them to get to the other side wither by going over it, under it or through it. It took maybe 3 or 4 minutes for the slowest group to get around it.

We need land mines.

I used to be against the fence but considering this administration is more for illegals than against, I'm thinking a hundred yard deep electrified razor wire field would do nicely.

We also need to do the same thing as France because France is deporting ILLEGALS out.

I happen to think the fence is nothing more than political grandstanding, but SOMETHING has to be done to stop/slow down the invasion. Merely tanking our economy isn't the answer...they're still coming, although perhaps not as fast/as many every year.

Of course, if we build a 20 foot tall fence, the Mexicans will just build 25 foot tall ladders...so we need more than just a fence...how about a moat, filled with sharks with lasers on their heads? :p

What would Mexico think if we built a wall across the boarder like in the movie 300, out of the dead bodies from the Mexican drug wars? Hmmm... I think that might have a chance of stopping border crossings

We can build one of those invisible electronic fences! Of course that would require that all Mexican citizens wear a shock collar, but that shouldn't be a problem, right

Or we could install motion sensing gun turrets every 100yds are so along the border, just keep the ammo hoppers refilled and your good to go!

Bwahahaha, the irony.

I already knew this, but Mexico's largest single part of GDP is I believe sending money from US to Mexicans.

IIRC:
Remittances were about $20 billion a year. Mexico's nominal GDP is about $1 trillion (or $1.4 trillion PPP, but lets use nominal). That would make remittances 2% of GDP. You did say largest single part of GDP, but I doubt that too, considering there are corporations and industries in Mexico which make far more than $20 billion a year.

Rather than argue the semantics of GDP vs. "Mexico's sources of income," I'll just post this from Svnla's link:

Mexico's reeling economy received another jolt of bad news Monday with reports of the largest monthly decline yet in the amount of money Mexicans working abroad send home.

Remittances for the month of April totaled about $1.7 billion, 18.6% less than the $2.1 billion recorded in April 2008, Mexico's central bank said.

After oil, remittances are Mexico's largest source of income, and their decline is certain to further erode the country's economic growth.

Mines. Cheap, effective, low maintenance. There are very few problems you can't solve with mines.
