Ouch, mind telling us the story on how it was lost?
Did you have insurance on it?
It was the result of confusion, pressure, stress, etc. processing through security screening at LAX in Terminal 4. Lots of construction. I was travelling to Europe with my wife and her sister on Lufthansa. We checked in, and then had to take our bags elsewhere, then return and go through security screening. Things were a little chaotic as the whole area was under construction.
I had the camera bag, my laptop bag, and two items around my neck - a hat, jacket, etc. All these had to go in bins, and I had to remove the laptop from its case, take off my shoes, remove my belt, my watch, my jacket and everything around my neck. It all went through in two bins plus the camera and laptop bags.
I went through clean, and then began to reassemble everything. In the process I simply forgot the camera bag and left it on a table. I did not realize I didn't have the camera bag until we were called to board the plane. I informed the Lufthansa gate person, and they called TSA. But -the bag was not to be found. Anyone could have walked off with it.
Insurance? I guess it is covered under my personal items floater. I'll see about that. It sure was an upsetting experience.
When we got to Frankfurt, I bought a Canon S3 IS (12X Zoom) in order to have picures of our 3 week Med odyssey. It did the job - came home with over 1200 pictures.
I will replace the 5D probably in September. In the meantime, the little S3 fills the gap.
