Piracy is stealing. Plain and simple.

Look at Doom 3.

It's pirated.

Don't even try to tell me that id software with it's what 20 employees is a corporate monolith stealing my livelihood and killing babies.

There is no MAN. There's people like you and me that are succesfull, whether it's John Carmack in control of id's 20 people, or Bill Gates in control of Microsoft.

Just because these people become successful and rich they don't suddenly become EVIL CORPORATE FACELESS MONOLITHS OF LIVELIHOOD TAKINGNESS.

It's all people.

When you pirate software, you steal from someone. Corporation or not.

I don't like catfish.

couldn't have said it better myself. anything else is just a justification for stealing. it's someone elses property, and you take it without asking, without appoval and without paying for it.

not to say that i haven't downloaded stuff, but at least i buy it now i can afford it, and i'm not being all robin-hood-taking-back-whats-mine-form-the-big-evil-companies-ish about it.

and catfish stink.

You know what one of the funny things about warez is? The fact that in some ways it's the exact same thing that the big guys(big business, government etc) do but in this respect it's the little guy taking what he wants. Big business & governments have done this for mellenia. That is, taking what didn't belong to them. It was even referred to in the bible as, "stealing away of the livelihood" of peoples. The reason i say it's funny is because now it's the little guy striking upward and combined the little guys have power. The big guys don't like this one bit and you see them exercising their disapproval every time you go to see a movie. Sure piracy is not really funny but then neither is the thievery that happens from the top down which is not even on the same scale. It is interesting to think about it in this respect however as it's a rather unique phenomenon where history is concerned.

You're a communist.

The 'man' isn't sticking it to you. If you're going to steal, accept the fact that you're a theif and stop trying to justify it.

Oh, and I've got a bunch of warez, so don't assume I'm getting high and mighty on you. I'm just telling you that you're wrong.

When you pirate a game for instance, you're not screwing the publisher. You're screwing the programmers who want to make something fresh and new, but instead have to churn out sequels and rehashes of tried-and-true profit generating games because otherwise they can't secure publishing. The publishers expect games to get warezed.

You may be able to use hte RIAA as some sort of twisted excuse to steal music, but when you steal a game that was practically written by 1 man alone, don't think you are somehow sticking it to big corporations. In other words, yea I agree with amdforever.

i dont think games are written by a single person no more.
i mean, the credits go on forever.

i think one would be able to argue that music seems to benefit more directly to people the audience has a connection with than the vast majority of people who make video games.

I'm guilty from the past. But now I buy all my games.
I do wish there were more demo's available. Before I shell out $30 - $50 for a game, I want to try it first.

I'm still on the fence about whether this thread is more or less retarded than when it started....😕

I can't really speak for governments, but I cannot think of a single big business that has "stolen my livelihood."

Then again, I guess I don't pirate software, so maybe I don't feel the need to justify pirating software, so I don't go trying to accuse some giant conglomerate with which I have never done business of robbing me.

And the government? Well here in America, we make the bed we lay in with our votes, or perhaps more accurately the few who bother to vote.

I'm a cleptomaniac by nature. Fortunately, I don't even have to leave the house to practice my god-given gift.

All aboard the justification train! Choo-Choo! Choo-Choo!

I actually thought the irony in question was going to be how the buttloads of copyright protection schemes stuck on new games make the games only playable by those who steal and strip that stuff off of them.

I mean seriously, I can't even play a lot of games I buy until I download the CD crack or something that strips the performance hogging copyright protection system out.

stealing from big corporations does not count.
Tell that to Ken Lay or all those whose pensions he stole!

thats definitely the same as pirating software.
To a certain extent it is!

however you want to see it i guess.....

I see it like this...

A) BIG corporations usually go oout of there way to squash the little guy and/or steal whatever product they are developing in order to remain ahead of the competition or eliminate

B) BIG corporations destroy the environment, cover it iup and then when caught do the bare minimum to fix what they have done

c) BIG corporations buy the politicians that are supposed to represent the people...taking away the democracy which we are supposed to be living in.....

so they steal my country i steal there products....sleeping at night is never a problem.

yeah, i always go try and get a "no-cd" patch for any game i buy.
its just so annoying to have to find my disc and slap it in every time. (i realize how lazy that is...but im not organized and i feel like if i pay for the game, i should be able to apply such a "crack")

And you have just confirmed you have no morals and are no better than the "BIG corporations" you seem to hate.

I'll tell you what, you are full of crap. So you steal products from big corporations do you? So you do this across the board?? NO, you are so full of BS. I doubt you steal products from Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, etc. They are big corporations, so whay don't you steal their products also? Why don't you steal from them, because your ass would be in jail.

You choose to steal software because you can get away with it. Not because you hate big corporations, but that was a nice try.

it has brought down the price of cd's, but pc games are still really expensive.

The pricing of a CD was always a joke, especially when the same album on magnetic tape which costs more to produce is priced less. PC games, though, actually have decreased in price in real terms because they've basically been $50 for quite a few years. It looks like Doom3 is breaking that barrier -- gee, thanks, Carmack!
