The best sports team today

WHo do you think is the best sports team in the sports world today(WNBA does not count)
I'm calling the Los Ange. Lakers.
Despite the fact I hate LA sports teams and am a huge sonics fan.
The team is stacked though, what can you say

I would say the LA Rapers are talented, but no one can touch the sucess of the Braves and Yankees(ewww).

course it is yet to be scene but...with all the big names its bound to be awesome

how can you say the lakers when they lost in the 2nd round last year, kobe will be locked up this year and malone will be on medicare next year?

In the four big sports in America, it is the Detroit Red Wings, without a doubt. It's been years since they didn't have a sellout at home. The incredible majority of their road games sell out. Detroit is Hockeytown, win or lose. I don't see the Lakers drawing crowds if they were middle of the pack.

They have ~9 Hall of Famers on the team. Most of them took less money to play on the Red Wings.



I'll buy the argument for Man U, but I don't really follow soccer... So, I'm definitely not a good source about that team.

I think you're missing the point by a wide margin, teams that don't advance in the playoffs aren't the BEST in the world.

this year the Avs maybe a better team, Kariya and Selanne signing, comeon, they will overwhelm the Wing's offence. They have 2 SOLID lines, with Forsberg, Sakic, Hejduk (last year's Rocket Richard winner), and now Kariya and Selanne, they are definately a better pick than Detroit this year. And then they have the defence, Foote and Blake. Now all they need is for Roy to come out of retirement.

Soccer wise, Real Madrid has been, and is now more than ever the best team since aquiring Beckham. They already had Ronaldo, Figo, Carlos, and the list goes on.

You are correct... The Avs may be a formidable team this year, IF they get a competitive goalie. And no, Felix the Cat doesn't count.

Yes, they have Foote and Blake. But the Wings have Lidstrom, Chelios, Hatcher, Schneider, Wooley, and Fischer.

Yes, they have five great forwards. But don't think that the Wings have any slouches in Yzerman, Hull, Shanny, Holmstrom, and Whitney. Don't forget about the kids... Datsuyk and Zetterburg.

The Checking lines aren't even comparable. There is no checking line as great as The Grind Line of McCarty, Draper, and Maltby.

Oh yeah... Can't forget about that Hasek guy. And don't think they are done dealing yet. They still have a top goalie to trade for (hopefully) a good sized centerman. (Robert Lang or Petr Nedved are the two latest rumors.)
