The best donuts...

Have sprinkles on them.

If you have a box of donuts like this, the sprinkles win HANDS DOWN. Every. Single. Time.

I will admit plain glazed are pretty good, but they just can't compete with the sprinkles. Is it a texture thing? Is it a flavor thing? Science may never know.

Crullers are pretty damn tasty too when you can't get a fresh sprinkle donut. The hostess powdered kind are okay...for a few bites.

I'm also partial to Krispy Kreme donut holes, but again, they can't compete with an old fashioned sprinkled. Pink tastes the best but chocolate frosting is and pink sprinkles is a close second.

Funny thing about Krispy Kreme, we have one near where I live and they have a "Hot Fresh Donuts" neon sign that lights up whenever they make a fresh batch. Was going to dinner the other day and the line around that little drive-thru was huuuuuge. No wonder whenever I go around town people are the size of beach balls and sweating to get in their scooty puff chairs at Walmart.

Jelly filled are the worst.

Wish I had a donut right now but unfortunately I'm on a diet (Gotta get back in the 150's).

150 is low, how tall are you?

5'7", I think I'm technically supposed to be in the 140's. I was 139 when I came back from Afghaniland but that was humping 100lbs all over dem mountains 7 days a week.

I just like steak and taters too much. Also donuts.

Krispy Kreme donuts are horrible.

Your affection for them shows us that you have lousy taste and can't be trusted.

Hell, even the local donut shop on the corner probably makes much better donuts than KK ever did. KK donuts are basically just air-filled sugar puffs. Dunkin Donuts are FAR superior to KK donuts...and they're nowhere near "the best I've ever had."

A REAL donut has some substance to it.

You want a super dense cake of donut? Whaaa? A donut is the perfect balance between light and airy and denseness. Sounds like you're eating pound cake.

Nah...a GOOD cake donut is light without being so airy you feel like there's nothing to it.
Hell, some of the best cake donuts I ever had was in a USMC chow hall...one of the cooks had been a baker before he got drafted and made GREAT sinkers.
WTF? image won't load...:colbert:

...come from a local shop.

Local shop>>>>>>>>>>>>Dunkin Donuts = Tim Hortons >>>>>>>Krispy Kreme.

Sprinkles are terrible. Get yourself an apple fritter. Boston creams are good too. So many better choices than sprinkles.

100% agreed. KK donuts are the worst.

Also Boston Cream/Creme/Kreme is the best kind of donut.

Sprinkles 4 lyfe.
Though around here we call them "jimmies"

That being said, I will eat practically any doughnut EXCEPT custard filled. Fucking gross.

I agree that sprinkled donuts are superior. But those donuts look like shit. Seriously, they look terrible. This is what donuts should look like:

I am very partial to apple fritters. Love those fuckers. BUt technically apple fritters aren't donuts. They're fritters.

WRONG

sprinkles RUIN them

the texture clash is fucking horrid between the soft glorious doughnut and the hard shitty sugar

Never had KK donuts from a branded shop, but the ones they ship are pretty bad. Local donuts can be good or terrible. That leaves Dunkin as the only dependable choice. Not the best, but consistent from shop to shop.

I'll also throw in with maple, and sprinkles can go to hell. They're just a bit of color to get the kids excited. They add nothing to the donut.

If I had a box like that, I'd definitely go for the sprinkles one first, and then tackle the cake/glaze one above it. After that, I'd leave the others. Not a fan of the jelly filled donuts.
