Approach anything from Dogfish with caution. They're not afraid to push the envelope on alcohol content or flavors. Some of their stuff is extraordinary and some is pretty scary. If you like really unique and exotic beers with STRONG flavors then go for it, you won't be disappointed. If you like beers that conform to the norm stay away as Dogfish doesn't do anything normal.

I've had 16 of them. All of them were good, but to me it's hard to pick the "best" beers - the best beer available where you live tends to be one bottled or cask-conditioned nearby, so it's a little misleading to pick one beer as best.

I like Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard, the stouts I dont like have usually been disliked for being to bland, and that Abt 12 stuff aint bad.

Okay, if you like Arrogant Bastard you're partially prepared for most of Dogfish's brews. Just be warned that AB is like training wheels for Dogfish's more extreme stuff. Some of them are closer in taste to whiskey than to beer. Of course if you like whiskey, then there's no trouble.

number 22 on teh 50 worst

What's scary is that I've tried about 25 of the beers on the 50 best list, but have had 32 of the 50 worst. It was a little disheartening to see Carling Black Label on the list though. When in high school my friends and I would drink CBL almost exclusively. We knew a liquor store that didn't card that ALWAYS had kennels of Black Labs on sale for dirt cheap, it was like 1/3rd the price of Bud, Miller and the rest of the American major brewery swill. We knew it sucked, but it was a great value for a bunch of broke minimum wage slugs looking for the most bang for the buck. I would have voted it as better just for the nostalgia value.

10 of the beers in the top 50 are Belgian
I'm sure you can get the most of these beers in the USA in specialized shops

6 St. Bernardus Abt 12 Brouwerij Sint-Bernardus
8 Trappistes Rochefort 10 Brasserie de Rochefort (Abbaye de Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy)
10 Westvleteren Extra 8 (Blue Cap) Brouwerij Westvleteren (Sint Sixtus Trappistenbdij)

19 Abbaye Des Rocs Grand Cru Brasserie de l'Abbaye des Rocs s.a.
23 Duvel / Duvel Rood (Red Lettering) Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat NV
43 St. Bernardus Tripel Brouwerij Sint-Bernardus

ive had that, actually ours was the 23% one, case cost 130$ and the beer was horrid, it tasted like a bad mix between rum and some fruty wine cooler, and the warmer it got the worse it tasted, you pretty much had to chug it, it messed you up tho

I keep a stock of the Samuel Smith Stouts on hand. I would also recommend #35 Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout from Brooklyn Brewery. I have had that and if you like stouts it is a good one.

I've had the Sam Smith's, they're definately good; also had some of the Sierra Nevada's but not those on the list.

I would recommend Dogfish's Raisen d'Etet and their 60 minute IPA. I didn't care for their 90 minute too much, and Gaghalfrunt is correct about their beer being anything BUT moderate. Expect extreme or unusual flavor and high alcohol.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale is excellent beer.....its number 13 on their list, but I would put it in the top 5 for sure.

My dad knows his beer, and he thinks the best in the world is made here. They've been making beer there since 1455; I have the feeling they know their sh!t.

Edit: My personal fave is Hoegaarden from Belgium, followed my Amstel (non-light) and Corona Extra.
