Good vehicle. Ugly.

Not nearly as ugly as the full size Lincoln whale SUV, and the Murano convertible.

but all are prettier than a PT convert

Is this

truly worse than this?

Oh God yes.
The CR-V just suffers from a high belt line. The Aztek, OTOH, is horrible. The front end is three chunky wedges with the third rising high, then the side windows drop down to adjust the belt line but but go completely against this by rising, which the third window contradicts by drooping below the belt line, into a rear window line that cuts too thin a wedge for the chunky front end, which then brings us to an upswept taillight dropping down again at the rear window belt line (which is at the level of the bottom of the taillights!) Then we add the cladding which makes the bottom half into some sort of scooped boat and top it off with tires that are way too small in asymmetric wheel arches.

Aztek:

After dropping the hood slightly, taking out some of the rise in the beltline giving us a much bigger window for the rear passengers, raising up the bottom of the 3rd window and increasing the angle at the back, along with giving it bigger wheels and raising the cladding at the doors to give it a midline, IMO we now have something that looks like it was designed with the whole in mind:

the problem with it is that it is awkwardly disproportionate. Wheels look WAY too small for the vehicle. Windows are large and placed at odd angles and sizes. None of the lines on the car seem to ...line up. The middle side window is what REALLY screws everything up because its not square with the rest of the body. It makes the car look like its folding in half between the doors.
It looks like a crumpled up piece of paper.

THIS on the other hand... interesting.

All the criticisms of the Aztek are valid....and yet...in black with tinted windows it has character that I find appealing...though I think ALL cars look great in black...

I am someone who appreciates a good blend of form & function, so with that said I do appreciate the Aztek. However, looking at it with only aesthetics in mind then it does seem to come up short.
