<< <<Why? You are living up to your end of Anzus.
If Australia were attacked... by say Indonesia... the increasingly hostile, and chronically instable, nation of 180 million people (also containing its fair share of Islamic extremists terrorists groups) and just a hop skip and jump from us.... would you want the US to sit around and debate or react swiftly to help defend Australia?>>
Time in this war isn't a critical factor at the moment. Governments often make silly decisions during war. Why were we in WWI or the Vietnam War? And why was there conscription? We always have stuck up for, and will always stick up for our allies. Sometimes it hasn't been for the right reasons. We weren't under any imminent danger then. Now we are, it is even more important to make the correct, democratic decisions.
Anyway, I support this deployment, and I wish they return safely. >>
If Australia cares about it's national interests, then there is NO decision.
Alienating, or even mildly pissing off*, Oz's largest ally would be disastrous policy IMHO.
Besides Aussie public opinion heavily favours military support, BOTH major parties favour military support.... just doesnt seem to be much of a need for a debate. 🙂
But, thats just this Yank living in your beautiful country's opinion. I may be biased... ehehe 😀
*I am in no way saying Oz should bow to the US on everything... I am simply saying in THIS case... being one of the MOST SERIOUS and GRAVE times in American history...
