On the attempt Anubis posted bring a less then optimal raid they still had 8 toons pushing over 2K dps. I understand what you are saying, but his guild had been farming BT for several months before they headed into Sunwell. Sure, if your guild is in that position you may be able to get away with less then optimal grouping, but coming straight out of BT without min/max it is hard to imagine how you could reasonably hope to do Brut.

In that case, my guild will have nothing to fear. We are committed to being progressive, but we are never in a rush. Once we have completed BT we will remain there for some time before moving on. This is the usual case after completing a raid instance. We won't stick around for several months, but we will most likely spend our first night of the week rushing through BT and spend the second night finishing what is left in BT and using the remaining time in the Sunwell. That routine will remain for about a month or two. It should earn us enough gear to make Brut a realistic obstacle to overcome using our normal methods of progression.

I know this isn't cutting edge here but man... the Teron Gorefiend fight is pissing me off. Two nights in a row and still no first kill. If only we could get people who don't suck at killing the constructs to be the first 2 or 3 in the rotation...

One thing that ticks me off about this fight is that you could have the best healer in the entire game of Warcraft who completely sucks at killing constructs. I hate fights that force focus on the individual but I guess most groups run into this from time to time. I have this bad feeling we will end up with some kind of 'Gorefiend Blacklist' where we would rather go in with 24 than have the 25th because we know he will always wipe the raid. :p

In other news, I took a break around the time 2.4 came out and only visited the new zone for the first time a little over a week ago. Last night I hit exalted thanks to the dailies and 6 or 7 heroic runs (still no damn melee dps trinket drop!). If only all rep 'grinds' were this noticeable. I would much rather run daily quests and get cash/rep than repeatedly run a dungeon where I no longer need anything.

and yes gorefiend construct failure is always fun, just drill it into people that its easy and have them watch a video, theres some really good step by step ones out there

Yeah we've linked to a really cool tutorial video as well as a flash mini game. Simply put how hard can it be to hit 4, tab 3, tab 3, tab 3, tab 3, etc. :p I have a feeling this will be one of those where for some players they will actually need to see it and fail at least once before getting down the mechanics. We did at least get him below 20% last night so relative to Wed we improved by about 20%.

The xpac will probably be here before we get to SWP so maybe my sanity will remain in check. ;)

There is a Konami cheat code for killing Gorefiend Constructs. It's the best thing since getting 30 lives in Contra. Here it is:

5 4 3333 3333 5 4 3333 3333 3333

To be honest, you don't even need to use 4 either. It's easy to kill them all by using Lance if you can change targets fast and accurately enough. Chaining them in place at least once right at the beginning is recommended for safe measure though.

On top of my firewall, AV, Anti-spyware tools, and Firefox + NoScript I am using a last resort method of protection called KeePass. This software not only acts as a secure Password storing database, but it also allows one to copy and paste their passwords using encryption methods which completely override all of recording code which Windows uses allowing things like Keyloggers to capture the password data. It also adds very little inconvenience to the user save for typing in a single password to unlock the password database and a couple extra clicks of the mouse. Well worth the extra 10 seconds if you ask me. That way, even if I do happen to get a keylogger that breaks through my preventative security, it will never be able to function on my system. Hopefully, that will buy me enough time to detect the malicious software and remove it before my account gets damaged.

Well guys (especially you Xavier :p) I finally did it. I bought an epic flying mount. I've been playing WoW since launch day and have never had more than 2K at once so this was quite a big deal for me. I did receive some help from a guildy who heard me talking about my progress on vent. About an hour after the discussion I found 2K waiting in my mailbox (Saturday). After going to buy the mount I had about 10G left on all three of my primary characters combined. At the end of the day on Sunday I have over 1K again. It is ridiculous just how quickly I can farm herbs/ore with this mount. Initially I thought I would have him paid back in a couple of weeks but at this point it looks like I'll be handing him his money back by Wednesday. :)

So for some reason our attendance has sucked lately. We haven't had a full successful raid in about a month now. People are starting to jump ship, take breaks from wow, and the leaders are going on a mass recruitment. Kind of sucks. We have downed the first 2 bosses in Hyjal and attempted BT once.

This normal for guilds?

I would say so. What is your normal raid schedule? Is it possible that shuffling the days will help attendance?

we used to raid Sunday night(SSC or TK), Tuesday(hyjal) night, and Wednesday(hyjal) night. With kara/za pickup groups on thurs/saturday.

then we switched to raiding Sunday(ssc), Monday(mag), Tuesday(hyjal), Wednesday(hyjal), Thursday(tk), and Saturday(Various).

For my guild, we have a tendency to slow down a little during the summer at least at the beginning. I think this has something to do with the number of guildies who are college students and the changes in routine lead to less playing or something.

Also, a lot of people have been getting less interested in WoW due to a lack of anything to do except more PvP and raiding. For me, this is fine because all it means is that I play other games or do something else entirely during nights that I do not raid. However, for many people, they gotta have their fix whether it comes from WoW or something else which often results in them not being interested in devoting any more time to their old fix once they find a new one so they end up jumping ship.

In any case, my guild's solution has always been the same. If we notice a consistent lack of a certain class then we just recruit a replacement. We do not expect people to just randomly vanish for a little while only to come back at some point and expect to pick up exactly where they left off in terms of raid invites. We do not shun them either though. If they come back, show dedication, and are patient due to there being more of their class then what is needed then they will get their share of invites and there are no hard feelings.

AoC's ~million players came from somewhere. If Blizz doesn't start to get things rolling in the right direction soon, we are likely to see prolonged contraction for the first time ever in WoW. What's scary is overwhelmingly people are looking forward more to WH then they were to AoC.

This same shit happened after Naxx was released with a lot of guilds. Most either merged, died off, or stopped raiding until the Expansion.

It's the pre-expansion blues... Bliz releases a Hardcore Raid instance..and it's either bust ass and get through it, or chill out, releax, and wait for the expansion.

the pre BC raid die off didnt really happen till the Patch where they made PVP items buyable with Honor and then the 2.0 patch was the finial nail, (those might have happened at the same time i dont exactly rmemeber)

most of it now has to do with Collehe/HS comming to an end and peoples playing times not being certian

we have lost a mage go this, but its only a mage so no big deal

We'll see about that. I agree that Blizz needs to get WotLK out sooner than later. I personally expect its release around November. However, after reading a lot of feedback around the internet as well as talking about it with some friends who are playing AoC I am now theorizing that a large chunk of the WoW players which are playing AoC are mostly doing it because they have nothing else to do. I believe that for many of them, the Camaraderie amongst the guilds will bring a lot of people back once WotLK is out. I don't expect everyone to return. I'm not even sure if I expect more than 50% of the previous WoW players to return, but many will.
