when you die, you drop your kit. if someone else that is not a medic picks up your kit then revives you, you end up with the kit they had prior to picking up your medic one.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. Wow its nice they went to the effort of picking up my kit to revive me lol

Why is it that when i get revived i sometimes end up with someone elses kit? Is this a feature or something? Does the game detect when you are an M60 whore and just switch kits to get you out of the habit or what...

BF2 did this and it came out 5 years ago lol.

i can't believe he hasn't figured this out in 5 yrs of playing BF! :D

Lol yeah i suck :(

Whats the best LMG in vanilla BC2? I see people with the PKM, T88, M60 isnt the dominator gun it is in vietnam and was nerfed i gather? Seems okay to me but is there much of a difference between the LMG's? I notice the PKM comes with more ammo.

PKM is clearly better than the M60 now that both do the same damage. Extra ammo, higher ROF, better iron sights, yeah, no reason to use the M60 any more.

That being said there are sill other choices that are good.

The G36 is popular because its "iron sight" is actually a red dot scope, which if you like using the red dot perk you can then choose something else like extra ammo or extended medkit healing range or light weight pack.

The T88 and SAW have 200 round mags which are amazing for situations where you want extended suppressing fire without having to cripple yourself with one of the incredibly long reload times typical of the LMGs (5-7+ seconds)

The MG3 is usefully in very close quarters for its incredibly high ROF but its pretty underpowered overall ever since the latest patch nerfed it.

But yeah, the only LMGs I ever truly consider using are the PKM, the T88, and the MG36.

Also, the M60 definitely isn't the "dominator gun" of the LMGs in Vietnam, the XM22 is. It handles exactly like the SAW (200 round mag, 800RPM) but does PKM level damage.

The G36 would be good, but the red dot has been broken for months, fixed, and re broken. It just doesn't exist in servers with the hip cross hair turned off, so the gun is essentially useless in hardcore mode.

yea it's usable in normal but not hardcore due to dice reintroducing the very same bug they fixed with the previous patch....

IMO the XM8 LMG is the best..

I like the T88 and G36...don't have the XM8 yet and I'm not sure I've had a chance to scavenge one yet.

What bothers me the most now that I have put some time in is the invincibility of air support. I was playing a rush map where the attacking team took a Huey from a long ways out (far enough to easily dodge RPG's) and just hovered with two miniguns firing non-stop. I was killed many times and the kill-cam went back to the Huey that was always firing. They need overheating guns, limited ammo, and/or the engineer needs Stingers. It was ridiculous. Once I stayed alive long enough to dump a belt or two from a LMG but it wasn't enough to take it down.

The guns do overheat, but I think they messed with that. I know they buffed the damage they do some. Best bet is to try and tracer it then rpg it. Difficult on heli's far away though.

With good pilots now though, it's almost impossible to tag 'em with a tracer and get an rpg round off in time before they use their flares (if equipped). Your best bet for taking one down is either spraying 'em with any .50 cal stationary gun (my preference now) or leading them with an rpg.

I'm looking to buy Bad Company 2, but not sure which platform. I can go XB360 or PC. Which has better online match ups? If PC, do you suggest buying/downloading from Steam or buy the box at a store?

Thanks!

I prefer the m/kb combination for pretty much any fps. Easier to control/aim imo. I never have any issues getting in any 32 player servers. I'd simply get it through Steam...which, btw, you missed out on a great deal for it during the holiday sale as it was ~$6.99.

no, I'm pretty sure Vietnam and Specact are tied to your account, so if you log on to someone's BC2 via steam and then sign in with your own player account, as long as that account has vietnam and specact it should be available even if the player doesn't own it themselves through steam. Those addons aren't really DLC, because everyone has it, its just whether or not its unlocked for the player account.

Everyone downloaded Vietnam when they downloaded map pack 7

What I understood was that if you owned it on Steam you have to purchase Vietnam on there as well. And vice versa if you have the retail.

Its tied to your EA account. I bought BC2 disc, then Vietnam via EA store. Rebought BC2 on Steam and Vietnam was activated.

I played the beta on PS3, and while it was good, it didn't really hold my attention. There's just something that draws you in when you're playing closer to the screen and using a keyboard and mouse. But one thing to consider is your hardware - if your computer is on the older side, you might find the performance lacking, and in that case, the console version might be a better choice, since it's more or less guaranteed to run adequately.

Can't speak to matchups, or another important issue, communication. You can type messages to players on the PC, but the VOIP doesn't quite work. I wonder if it works on xbox.

The only stipulation that I know of is that that Vietnam through Steam only works with BC2 through Steam.

Otherwise whether or not you own Vietnam or the SPECACT kit is tied to your registered EA account, not your Steam account.

Pretty dumb but whatever.

Purchasing BC2 Vietnam on Steam vs non-Steam

Edit: Updated with info regarding gifted Vietnam

There seems to be some confusion regarding purchasing Vietnam. I hope this clears things up.

Any stores that "sell BC2 Vietnam", sell a 16-digit code. This code can be entered into the BC2 game client - any version of the game client. Entering this code unlocks Vietnam for that EA account. No additional download is necessary.

Here are some typical scenarios:

You have bought the base game on Steam, and Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and someone gifts you Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and Vietnam somewhere else - this works. The Vietnam expansion will not be visible in the Steam client, but you can access it in-game.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and Vietnam somewhere else - this works.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and Vietnam on Steam - this is not possible, because Steam will not sell Vietnam to someone who does not have the base game on Steam.
[Initially, it was possible to make this specific purchase - but Steam changed that fairly quickly.]
If you somehow did manage to make such a purchase, please contact Steam support to resolve this.

You have bought the base game on Steam, and someone has gifted you Vietnam on Steam - this works. You will also see Vietnam listed in your Steam client.

You have bought the base game somewhere else, and someone has gifted you Vietnam on Steam - well... Long story. The gifting will succeed. Steam will know that you have Vietnam, but you will not see it in the Steam client because you do not have the base game. Therefore you will not be able to view the 16-digit code for Vietnam. Contact Steam support to resolve this.

We have been in contact with Steam, and their support department is aware of the above.

The "Vietnam" menu in BC2 will say 'go buy the expansion' until Dec 18th. (It will still say so after you have bought the expansion.) After the 18th, the dialog will change to one where you are asked to enter your code.

Accessing Bad Company 2: Vietnam (and other DLC)

Downloadable content will not be listed as a separate entry in your Steam games list.

When purchased, this content will be automatically downloaded and incorporated into the game.

To view the additional content for this game that is registered to your account, please do the following:

1. Log in to Steam
2. Navigate to your Library list
3. Right-click on the game
4. Select "View downloadable content".

Alternatively, you can also find the DLC (downloadable content) for a game by right-clicking on the game, selecting 'Properties' and navigating to the DLC tab.

In order to use expansions and bonus content, you will need to activate the content on your EA Battlefield: Bad Company 2 account.

To do this, right-click on the game in your "Library" list in Steam and select 'View Game CD Key'. Carefully write down the key for the package(s) you want to activate.

If you do not see the "View Game CD Key" option, please verify your game cache files.

Select "Launch Game".

Once you arrive at the main menu, choose the "Login" button, along the upper right.

Log in to your EA account.

To register your content, select Multiplayer > Redeem Code.

**When entering your key(s), do not include any dashes. Including dashes when entering your key may result in an 'invalid key' error.
