Dude this game is BAD. Looks bad and performs worse. Game play which is half decent is completely ruined by it's performance.

It stutters at 1680x1050 with everything on low on my rig. Actually there is no difference at all between High and Low, 2560 or 1680, everything just runs horrible. Even tried to force it in dx9 through the ini file, stutter. Tried to disable SLI maybe the nvidia profile is whack, who knows... stutter. Makes me sick when I play it.

Hopefully the name "beta" is true to it's meaning, but I have a feeling this is what EA is dishing out. DICE probably tried to warn them the game is alpha, and EA said alpha?... you shoulda published when it was pre-alpha!

Download the new nvidia beta drivers for bfbc2 they came out today. It made a world of difference for me

Win7 64, crash to desktop and fully updated afaik. It is a beta after all.

The server browser crashes. You have to click "play now." It usually puts you in a laggy server though. Read the message at the bottom in game it tells you about it.

Another work around is login. Click settings. Then click server browser. This only works for some people.

I've been playing for a couple hours and it's $50 well spent! :D Just wait until you find a good server.

Turns out I needed to open steam/settings/beta participation/ and select "Steam Client Beta." I didn't even realize this setting existed, but apparently it's the cure all for Win7 troubles.

Game runs great for me except for the retarded lag of course, but this will be fixed. When I say lag, I mean hit recognition. I can move through the map without any rubber banding at all. Generally 1:4 games will actually connect. 50% of the time, I lose connection to the server.

This game has a lot of potential. I'm very excited about the teamwork possibilities.

ONCE AGAIN be patient. DICE is always good and delivers. All their previous beta games had those issues and they got fixed.

Anyone know where else to get keys?

This just changes so rapidly, you have to be pro-actively looking so when you find something active, you can jump on it.

this place has a page up, it seems to work sporadically: http://www.myinternetservices.com (got two codes last night, but tried 15 times...)
Fileplanet just started giving away keys to their subscribers: http://www.fileplanet.com
Get a twitter account, and then watch at this link for offers to pop up: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...w&sa=X&oi=tool&resnum=5&ct=tlink&ved=0CBEQpwU People will give you a key for responding tto them, or "following" them.
Browse as many internet forums as you can, and check out the BFBC2 threads.

This game is really really fun. I played it for about 4 hours straight last night, and there were so many really fun moments. The destructible terrain is pretty amazing, the last game I played last night we defended the first 2 points until we won and the front area was almost completely leveled by that point.

I'm really lucky I guess, I had a few CTD's but I was able to get into full servers through the browser after those happened. The biggest problem I've had so far is lag, every server I joined seemed to have at least a little lag which can make things act kinda wonky.

As far as performance goes I've maxed out everything except AA (which is at 4x) and I never noticed any slowdown. Running it on Phenom II 940 w/ 4Gb ram and a 5870 on win7 x64. The graphics are really great, I've never been impressed with the graphics in BF games before but they look really good in this one. I'm happy I pre-ordered this, having so much more fun with it over MW2, I'll probably never play that game again.

Oh - and for those people who are having issues connecting I forwarded these ports on my router and it improved things dramatically:

49782-49783

10000

62834-62835

where did you find these port #s? are they TCP or UDP? and what to put in for base port?

i checked the readme file and it says nothing of these ports...

This game is a lot of fun. Hopefully someone can answer some questions from a Battlefield n00b (haven't played since BF1942).
What are the advantages of squads? Seems to me like the just limit the number of people you can communicate with.
Wasn't this meant to come with 6 unlocks if I preorder on Steam? I can't find them, where are they?
Ugh, I had more Qs but it's 5am and I can't think of them.

BTW FWIW the performance is perfect at 1920*1200 maxed settings on my machine (PhenomII 955BE, 4890) and looks beautiful.

the unlocks probably arent available till the actual game launches

you can spawn to your squad mates

I do sorta miss having a commander to command the squads

a few games I played in my squadmates would follow me around

but others they just ran off and did stupid shit

First impressions:

Im running on a e8400 C2D @3ghz (stock), 8800GT OC, 19" CRT @1280x1024, Graphics set to "Medium".
Got my BF2 Player name reserved (Gully_Foyle_1), yay!

Configure the controls: everything looks fine, except it doesn't recognize parts of my joystick (Top Gun 2 something or other), can't use my throttle slider, nor the "hat" for looking right/left, etc.
Also, I don't see an option for toggle crouch on and off, you have to hold the crouch key the whole time.
Also, there's no screenshot button that I can see. That explains a lot :hmm:

The news ticker is telling me the server browser is borked. Try it--yep, CTD.
Join now button gives me errors connecting to server. After getting the error, it seems like the Join Now button has a cool-down period. It does nothing when you click it for a few minutes. After a few tries it looks like I made it through! I load up to a server but at the status screen it says I was kicked from the server! Damn. On the right of the screen is a servers tab, when I open it I see two multi-play UK servers, and a server in Paris. This is what it is trying to connect me to (I'm in Pennsylvania, USA). The one server probably kicked me for high ping. Come back a little later and try it again, and it connects me to a server in Virginia. I'm in!

Movement feels a little strange. Lots of people were complaining about lag, I was wondering if my movement is related to this. After playing a while, I don't think so. My connection was good. Movement is just not as "crisp" as BF2.

I played engineer mostly. The default gun is underpowered. It does take a whole clip to bring someone down. The RPG has a large amount of arc. That's OK, it just means it takes skill, and with experience you can excel over others.

Graphics: As I said, I am running at "Medium" settings. Given, I am not running a wide screen, but the FOV does look a bit low. Not enough to disturb me, though.
They've packed a lot more on the screen than BF2, with smoke and other effects, but I'm not noticing any related slow-downs.
Some of the bushes/tress look great, others look a bit flat.

I'm still tweaking and learning the controls here. I can be a slow learner, probably why I stick with games I like for a long time. Most of the game I carried an RPG around waiting for vehicles to show up, only late in the game when I saw a guy shooting out of a third window did I wake up and blow up the wall he was hiding behind, killing him in the process!

All in all, I ended up playing almost 10 rounds, pretty much lag free. If you can get on to a good server, you're golden. I just need to get in game with a few of my buds on VOIP. Then it will rock! I didn't hear anyone on mic last night.

More random thoughts:

Fell off the second story of a building and seemed to take no damage. Dumb.
Jumped over what looked like a 5 foot fence???
Everyone else can see your health level, except you?

Wasn't bothered by the triangles over heads. Btw, they only show up when the enemy has been spotted.

Spotting requires putting your cross hairs on something, then hitting Q, which was the commo-rose from BF2. In BF2, you also hit q, then the trigger to spot. In BFBC2, the trigger is not required, this shoots your weapon. I keep shooting my squadmates when requesting ammo or health !

Are there any secrets about how to save screenshots? If I hit PrintScreen in game, then go out and paste it in Paint, all I see is a 1280x1024 block of white? Is it just me? Thx.

I wouldn't do anything with ports until I heard it from DICE. I figure whatever ports i used for BF2 (if any), should suffice for this. I know you and me both were able to connect and play without making these changes...

I'm actually glad they got rid of the commander, the artillery strike would be too ridiculous in this game since you wouldn't even be able to hide in buildings from it.

@gullyfoyle: I played as an engineer most of last night as well, and the gun works well at close range, the damage falls off really fast at higher range though. The RPG also doesn't really arc until it's gone a certain distance, I did a lot better after I started firing it from mid range instead of long range. If you're not too far away you don't even have to aim high to compensate for arc at all.

I got the apache a couple times, I'm pretty good with helo's in this but I crashed the first time because I didn't invert the flight mouse lol. After I did that though I got a few kills with it and even suicided into a T90 with it lol.

One thing I noticed they changed in squads was you can spawn on any squadmate now, it's no longer just the squad leader. I got into a really good squad last night randomly and we got the top scoring squad a few times. We had a good mix too, 1 of each class in our 4 man squad. It's really nice when a squad works together, one thing I don't like is not being able to see your own health. I'm really glad you don't regen in MP though (I think?).

Lastly, the knifing is done pretty well I think. It doesn't always kill people in one hit and the animation is a lot slower than MW2 so you can't be a ninja like knifing god in this. That being said I got a couple knife kills every round still, one time I knifed a guy in the face as he was killing me with the defib lol.

Oh another Q, can I skip that stupid-ass screen that pops up before every spawn? That's really annoying and unnecessary.

I think the reason for that is so you can choose where you spawn, I thought it was stupid until I started spawning on my squadmates. They usually have an option to spawn as soon as you respawn time is up though.

I got 6 knife kills in one match and got a points badge for it

I also knifed a guy in the helmet and it made a thud, then he shot me in the face with his beretta :(

it was pretty funny though.

sniping seems to take some real skill. or when I tried it, it was laggy.

I got the scar unlocked for the engineer so I am going to try it out on lunch, I also unlocked the shotgun, but its a pump so its slow but when in building defending a mcom its pimptastically fun

You unlock the Saiga 12 after the SCAR, it's a semi auto shotgun (it was infamous in desert combat lol). It works pretty nicely in this, but the SCAR is nice too. I was looking at the unlockable guns and you can unlock a thompson smg and a M1 garand lol, I thought that was pretty cool.
