A couple of keyboard tips for the PC beta:

  • Double clicking your forward key will make you run, without holding the defined run key.
  • You can lock-in crouch by crouching, then hitting a text chat key, then hit enter to remove the chat box. You will be locked in crouch. Just hit the crouch key again, or the jump key to stand back up.

I really really hope in the retail version they have an option to lock crouch properly since you need it so much in this game.

That's way less of a pain than holding Ctrl

since there is no prone, is accuracy at crouch similar to bf2 prone accuracy?

Yeah, I think so. Seems to be a bit more accurate than normal crouch, and I haven't missed prone too much because of this. Only times I miss it are when it would be nice to get on the ground to reload/take more cover.

Honestly, it's not even an issue. For defenders, there's a plethora of spawn areas, you're not limited to a certain little square like you were in BF2, it's all over a small area it seems. On top of that, you're probably in a squad, and you can pick any member to spawn off of. I haven't had to deal with spawn camping at all. Well, one guy rushed up into the uncap while I was playing attacker, but we just killed him. No big deal. Dice has really done an amazing job with this game.

Could not have said it better myself. I too have had no issue with Spawn Camping at all - unlike BF2, your are not limited. Although, come to think of it - after they created Infantry only servers in BF2 that seemed to eliminate a lot of that from continuing so much.

I too believe DICE has done an amazing Job. This game is leaps and bounds ahead of BF2 - just as BF2 was in 2005. Can't wait for release date.

I find the attempted realism to be a huge factor in this BETA / game. The weapons have recoil and your aim needs to be adjusted accordingly.

I wouldn't say accuracy is similar at all - frankly crouch can be annoying at times, as it adjusts to the landscape your crouching on. So, if you crouch and move and yr A** hits a rock, debris, etc - your crouch is adjusted, automatically to be exact. Been killed a few times like that now - all of sudden you are target practice - oh look, there's a head :)

How tough is it to take down an entire small to medium size building in the game, whether using C4, tank gun, TOW, etc? I haven't been able to find much on exactly how much firepower this takes; so I keep having visions of BF2's commander assets - it would take hundreds of tank rounds to destroy, say, a UAV control shed in BF2 but only 2 C4.

I'd love to download the beta and find out myself but it's not worth attempting with my current computer which I hope to upgrade in the next month.

Can a chopper plink a few hellfires at a building and take it out?

Also, are there any plans to have admin-choosable customizations, by that I mean such as increased spawn time for players or even limited number of respawns per individual player, increased respawn times for vehicles(ie, make there be a 3 minute respawn time for choppers instead of 15 seconds like BF2)?

I did read the tweet about hardcore mode which I will quote at the end of this sentence but as you can see I'm talking about completely different types of hardcore customization: "No Crosshairs. No Minimap. More Lethal Weapons. No Kill Cam. No Regen Health. All Skill." I'm talking more about spawn limitation...

It probably takes about 8-10 well placed shots to take out a building. You have to take out most of the exterior visible walls. There are some indestructible walls, and if you keep hitting the same indestructible wall, it will take forever. If you carefully take out the major spans of external wall, about 8-10 shots should do it. It takes about the same # of tank shells, C4, TOW missile shots, or RPG's to get the job done, because they have to be dispersed around the building.

This is all we know about server customization at the moment: Remote Administration interface for BFBC2 PC

They quote the BF2 console commands as their "inspiration".

anyone know if the tracer darts work with the RPG as fire and forget? I have both and never seems to work right.

In Slickdeals there's still no cancels for that pre-order in B&N yet so you guys jumping on that MIGHT be getting it but as usually, it's probably a pricing mistake.

Yes. You have to make sure the RPG "locks on" to the dart - you'll know when it locks because it'll display the range to target. It'd be nice if there was a tone or something but this is what we've got.

Judging from the screens there isn't fog of war...correct? Is that possibly why snip0rz needed some extra disadvantages?

And are there any limitations on what those tracer darts will stick to? In the case of vehicles that require multiple RPG shots to kill, will the RPG still be able to lock on after the first hit?

If this works out well it will certainly be one way of putting the hurt on tank whores.(and other kinds of whores if those darts will stick to anything)

My impression is that there is no more omniscient one-click commander spotting, so it may actually be possible to use stealth in this game?? If so I can definitely see people hiding out in a location putting tracer darts on tanks or choppers as they spawn :)

There are already people who camp vehicle spawns to steal them, so I imagine they could do the same thing with tracers. The Apache is pretty hard to steal though, it's out in the open so it's hard for the enemy to camp really close to it.

Yes, hiding out and darting a tank it a totally viable strategy. Just gotta have proficient spotters on your team, is all.

No fog or war. Just blowing snow, or sand on other maps.

Tracer darts stick to anything, even people. In the last game I played, I was trying to tag a tank and one of my teammates ran in front of it, and I tagged his back! The tracer dart sticks past first hit. Not sure if it disappears immediately after the person that placed it is killed, though. Check that, I saw the sensor glowing in the kill cam after a tank shot me. So it lasts for some amount of time after death.

There are several types of motion sensors in the game. Snipers have a sensor ball, there is a motion sensor vehicle spec, and the UAV also has motion detection. Supposedly if you sit still, it won't spot you. Not personally tested. Nothing that does the whole map like the commander in BF2.

That manual has nothing about the UAV. I wish I could find a walk through on how to use the damn thing.

What do you want to know? You can customize the controls for flying to be whatever you want.

Also, it's pretty easy to find an empty server to practice on, ATM.

Ahhhh...I can't believe I forgot to ask whether vehicles were side-locked to prevent theft but I'm glad to see that's not the case. Honestly that was one of the sole reasons I didn't like Project Reality was the side-locking and the time limitation on switching stations within vehicles, everything else in that was pretty good.

Speaking of stealing vehicles...one of my favored tactics is to let the enemy pilot warm up the chopper for a few seconds then blast him out with the M95, and since he's warmed it up for me, I can fly off immediately. Is there a weapon capable of penetrating the cockpit glass in this manner in BC2?

That manual has nothing about the UAV. I wish I could find a walk through on how to use the damn thing.

It's similiar to a helicopter, except you use R to rise, F to fall...up down.

It has about a 15-20 second reload timer on the UAV missle, and it follows where you are aiming while it's in mid-air, like a laser dot.

There are already people who camp vehicle spawns to steal them, so I imagine they could do the same thing with tracers. The Apache is pretty hard to steal though, it's out in the open so it's hard for the enemy to camp really close to it.

I love jacking the apache, my and my little brother mow with it...i've gotten 5400 points with it once, in one run. After we stole it, LOL....this was before people got the dart.

I was wondering about that. I firmly believe that unless they've already thought about this and have a safety mechanism, that is going to be used to force teamkills. Perhaps it's obvious to the person firing the RPG that they've targeted a friendly? Big tags perhaps?
