Am I the only person who hasn't really enjoyed any of the new maps versus the vanilla ones?

Depends on the expansion.

Base I think I really like 4/10. 2 I dislike. 4 meh.
CR 4/4 meh.
SA 2/4 like. 2 dislike
NS 4/4 dislike. Home of the worst map in the game.
DT 2 like 2 meh.

Overall
Like 4/10 vs 4/16
Meh 4/10 vs 6/16
Dislike 2/10 vs 6/16

Yeah, hardcore doesn't have 3rd person view. IF you're on a "hardcore" server with it on, then it must be custom.

" 'core " refers to softcore, aka normal core gameplay. Hardcore is always spelled out as hardcore.

I refuse to play hardcore because of snipers.

There isn't normal core. It's hardcore and normal. Calling normal " 'core " doesn't make any sense at all.

Normal has always been "core". It is what it is, core gameplay mode.

Right, so it is core, not 'core which would mean something is in front of it, or hardcore. I've never seen vanilla or core called softcore - it's not a damn porno.

Pretty much the same for me, but I'll even add that I think BF4 has the worst maps in the series period. And it may even be the worst game. I hated the consolification of BFBC2, but it was more fun IMO.

Golmud railway is the only vanilla map that feels like a battlefield map to me. The rest seem more like CoD with vehicles.

SA: Caspian is still pretty good, but I think Firestorm was way better in 3 and Oman sucks now whereas it was one of my favs in BF2. Refuse to play Metro CQ.
CR: Altai Range and Dragon Pass are pretty fun. Silk Road is terribly inbalanced. Guillin Peaks is musical chairs.
NS: The maps are pretty but that's about it. Gameplay is lame and the Gunship is about the worst thing to ever happen.
DT: Pretty much hate everything about it.

I play BF for the combined arms aspect of it. I don't like the infantry focused maps at all (im not a vehicle whore either). BF has become too fast paced for my liking (unlimited sprint, super accurate weapons) and it has been dumbed down too much with things like thermal optics etc.

Just MO

Market and propaganda are good maps if you like more ground pounding. I always liked slightly smaller maps with little armor (32-48 players), so these two are in my wheel house.

The only one my friends and I pretty universally dislike is Dragon Pass (Metro and Locker are ok in small doses). They also don't like Silk Road but I personally enjoy it. Haven't played much DT still but I'd probably group them in with Metro and Locker mostly.

I love market, like Propaganda quite a bit, and LG is absolute cheese (I can regularly hit 8:1 k/d on that map with 70+ kills) for DOM.

The boat map is absolutely lopsided for DOM, whoever holds C (boat top) wins. Every time. And spawn points are exposed to those who hold the roof.

EDIT: I'll even go as far as to say I think Market is the best infantry-centric BF map in existence. It even beats out my beloved Nosehair Canals from BF3.

Don't forget the proliferation of homing weapons. Especially those with no lock. They are clearly trying to compress the skill range in bf4.

I don't mind infantry focused maps, I just don't like them constantly. We have people in my clan who would rather we eliminated vehicles entirely, but it'd be a much weaker game without them.

I live vehicles in the game, but not so many I feel forced to use engineer. I love playing assault, but doing do (without an organized squad) is stupid on many maps. I find myself playing support/assault much more on market/propaganda and I'm loving it.

Im not a fan of any of the Dragons Teeth maps, they are all too big for Domination and yet too small for Conquest. Even though I like to snipe, I despise LG because it always turns into a sniper campfest. Market is another campers paradise, and even though I usually do very well on those maps they just aren't very much fun to play. Oh, and I have yet to get into a decent game of Chain Link, one team always destroys the other, its the most lopsided game mode Ive ever played.

PS- The Noshair Canals will never be topped!!!! 😉

Golmud is also my fav BF4 map for Conquest.

I thought they did an awesome job this time around on Firestorm, it looks and feels like a war zone now. I agree that Oman is now virtually unplayable, and nothing could ever help Metro.....LOL

I like the speed and gunplay of BF4 better than of its predecessors, but I too could do with out most of the lock on weapons, especially the stinger, that thing reloads and locks way too damn fast.

I agree Firestorm looks good. I just hate DICE's obsession with the low sun angles. Can't it ever be early afternoon FFS?

True, that was my biggest complaint about my fav BF3 map too, Noshar Canals. And lets not forget the super moon on BF3's Death Valley, you needed to wear SPF 45 sunblock to keep from getting a moonburn on that map. 😛

They really need to cap the tick rate on chain link. I makes come back from the enemy controlling most of the flags nearly impossible.

if you get rid of lock-on weapons then the aircraft will be even more overpowering than they are now.
somehow the reactive armor on tanks/apv's make no difference against the A10s.

I think limiting some resources would give better balance, no more unlimited vehicles would be a good start, limited ammo for vehicles would alleviate the overpowering nature of all vehicles. make it so they have to be reloaded. when you run out of jihad-jeeps then ya gotta depend on engy's and anyone with explosives to take out armor.

The only lock on that really bugs me is the stinger, its reload time is way too fast and ammo supply far too great for a weapon that can lock instantly and be fired and forgotten.

The LAW is the same for ground vehicles, but it's so pathetically weak against armor that it doesnt really matter.

I disagree, and I enjoy playing in helicopters. I think the stinger needs more range against jets, actually - generally you can only get 1 off and then they just hide until their CM are active again.

The jet dynamic has caused problems since BF2. How do you make something affective against jets without it pwning helicopters? Personally, I think they should bring back below radar for helos, but make them vulnerable to small arms fire.

I don't think the AT lockons are that bad. The LAW does fuck all for damage, and the Javelin can be a pain in the ass when it breaks lock because a leaf gets in your FOV, or it locks onto an empty motorcycle and not the tank trying to nuke you. Javelin also can't be used on infantry/buildings so that's another negative.

Unlimited ammo for vehicles is patently stupid though.

As it is jets really have nothing to worry about other than other jets, its easy to simply fly out of range of anything coming from the ground. Choppers on the other hand get it from all sides, and only the very best pilots will stay airborne for any length of time.
